It is surely turning out to be a global Indian takeover.

After Indian megacorps like Tatas, Mahindras and Wipros putting the Indian flag on international deal-street, CK Prahalad was recently named as the world’s most influential thinker by Thinkers 50, a respected global ranking of business gurus. India’s leading management portal MBAUniverse.com has officially tied-up with UK based Thinkers 50, to present the findings and learnings from this global ranking.

With this tie-up, MBAUniverse.com will publish the profiles and learnings from world’s leading business thinkers, every week.

Thinkers 50, produced by UK based management experts Des Dearlove & Stuart Crainer of Suntop Media, is a bi-annual guide to which thinkers and ideas are most influential in today’s times. According to Thinkers 50, shortlists of business and management thinkers for the ranking were based on reader’s poll, expert poll and Google search listings. Shortlists were assessed against 10 criteria. These criteria were originality of ideas, practicality of ideas, presentation style, written communication, loyalty of followers, business sense, international outlook, rigor of research, impact of idea and guru factor. The ranking is also supported by Skillsoft.

Thinkers 50 ranking was first launched in 2001, and its 2007 edition was launched in Nov 2007.

According to Thinkers 50 rankings 2007, CK Prahalad surged ahead of icons like Bill Gates, Michael Porter, Jack Welch, Gary Hamel and other venerated gurus to claim the no 1 spot. This is the first time that an Indian has topped the list.

What’s more, CK Prahalad is not the only Indian in the prestigious list! There are three others: CEO coach Ram Charan (#22), Vijay Govindarajan of the Tuck Business School (#23); and Harvard’s Rakesh Khurana (#45). North Americans however dominate the list with 37 gurus of the total fifty.

There are many new entrants to this year’s list. John Kotter; Thomas Friedman (author of The World is Flat); coach Marshall Goldsmith; Marcus Buckingham; Richard D’Aveni; permission marketing evangelist Seth Godin; educationist Howard Gardner; and Chris Zook of Bain Consulting make their debut.
