Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai is going to accept only high scores of CAT 2014 and MAHCET 2015 in its admission 2015 to MMS & MSc (Finance) programme. Unlike earlier admission years, scores of other All India entrance tests wouldn’t be accepted by JBIMS in admission 2015.

JBIMS: Separate Application needed

JBIMS has now taken the shape of the autonomous B school. For admission year commencing 2015 candidates were supposed to apply to JBIMS separately apart from registering for MAHCET 2015. The admission application at JBIMS closed on Jan 5, 2015 and will shortlist candidates based on their CAT 2014 or MH-CET 2015 scores. These candidates will have to appear for an in-person assessment that may consist of a group activity, personal interview and written ability test to be held at Mumbai.

MAHCET 2015: Good opportunity to JBIMS Applicants

Candidates who applied for admission in JBIMS but couldn’t score high in CAT 2014 have yet another opportunity with MAHCET 2015 to prepare well and score high to get shortlisted by JBIMS.  The candidates who couldn’t apply to JBIMS by the due date to submit the application at the B school wouldn’t be considered for shortlisting by JBIMS even if they register and apply for MAHCET 2015.

The announcement by DTE Maharashtra to conduct MAHCET 2015 on March 14 and 15, 2015 across the country for admission to MBA/MMS batch in Maharashtra B schools will provide a good opportunity for the candidates who wish to improve on their CAT 2014 scores and apart from JBIMS are seeking admission opportunity in other highly ranked B schools in Maharashtra.

JBIMS: High MAHCET 2015 score needed

Admission seekers to JBIMS need the best awarded marks in MAHCET 2015, if they really wish to explore admission opportunity in this top rated B school. Prof S K Agarwal Verbal Ability expert and mentor on MAHCET preparation, shares how you can score high in MAHCET 2015 to seek admission in JBIMS

How to make high score possible in MAHCET 2015

Thousands of candidates who have not been able to score high in CAT 2014 will have yet another chance to improve their scores and explore admission opportunity in the B schools of Maharashtra on the basis of MAHCET 2015 scores. If you understand the exam pattern and follow a few tips to score high in MAHCET 2015, you can very well crack the test with high marks.

No Negative marking but avoid too many guesses

Since there is no negative marking in MAHCET, the common thought is to go for gambling on questions, answers to which you are not aware of. Although there is no direct penalty for wrong answers, candidates lose on many sections as they may be good in one section but poor in other ones. More guesses may not help you qualify all the sections.  The consequences are reflected in the final admission round as those who marked lesser number of wrong answers are rated better.

Since in 2015 JBIMS will have its own internal assessment process, candidates would need to maximize their attempts judiciously instead of simply go on marking any answer in the hope that it could be correct.

Verbal Ability: higher share in exam

Out of 200 questions in MAHCET 2015, you may find 80 questions on Verbal Ability and Reading comprehension and as such it will form a major chunk of the examination. The multiple choice questions will cover all the aspects of English fundamentals, vocabulary and proficiency in reading.

Besides there is no weightage difference to any question in any section. It means If Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension has 80 questions in MAHCET 2015, you have to score around 60-65 marks in this section.  Scoring high is not much difficult going by the MAHCET exam pattern but you need strong fundamentals and flair for reading if you wish to seek admission in JBIMS.

In one month you can revise all what you have learnt for CAT 2015, XAT 2015 or for CMAT tests.

No GK so far in MAHCET

The 3 sections of MAHCET consist of 200 MCQs divided in Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension; Quantitative Aptitude –Data interpretation; Logical and Abstract reasoning. These questions are to be answered in 150 minutes. Although the number of questions per section is not fixed and may vary but so far MAHCET has not added questions on General Knowledge. This will help the candidates to focus on their preparation as per the CAT 2014 pattern.

It will be easier to crack and score high in MAHCET 2015 for those who have taken CAT 2014 with good amount of preparation as they will have to revise and practice as they did for CAT 2014 without cramming their head on GK questions.

MAHCET: Easier test than CAT

JBIMS aspirants can sure score high since MAHCET is an easier test than CAT. The verbal ability questions are more or less based on fundamentals of English Language, RC Passages are short and the questions based on them are more direct. Questions in other sections are also not very tough if you compare them with the level of difficulty in CAT.

Quant & DI: Streamline the preparation

This section will test your calculation skill. Quant & DI test will assess your fast and accurate working ability with numbers, numerical calculations and understanding of various arithmetic problems like ratio and proportion, percentage, etc. This test is also designed to measure your power of quantitative reasoning, interpretation of tables, common graphs and charts.

If you understand the basics and can devise quick solution formula to solve tricky questions, you will sure be a winner in this section.

Logical & Abstract Reasoning: Needs more practice

To solve the problems in this section, it is very important to practice and develop natural logical instincts. Logical and Abstract reasoning is going to test you on quick and accurate thought process. This test will have questions based on figures and diagrams and also questions on verbal reasoning.

You will need more practice to improve the accuracy and speed so that you can score high in this section.  This section can give you an edge if you attempt it well.

Maximise the attempts

All questions have equal weightage, you can attempt the difficult ones in next round of the attempt, if time permits. Besides, guesses can be made in the last round. Although there is no negative marking DTE Maharashtra advises against making too many guesses as it may bring bad impact in final admission round.

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) Mumbai is one of the 3 highest ranked B schools in Maharashtra with SPJIMR and NMIMS and is one of the top 15 B schools In India. JBIMS has recently been granted the status of Autonomous institute.
