MBAUniverse.com has raised the issue of such inadvertent mistakes made by the candidates with DTE Maharashtra to help the candidates out of this dilemma. MAHCET 2015 aspirants should be careful, avoid mistakes and check the filled up details before saving the data in the application form.

Category: Choose the correct one
This field in the online application form has 10 specified categories namely OPEN/ST/SC/ VJDT- NT (A)/NT (B)/NT (C)/NT (D)/OBC/SBC/OMS.

The confusion arises between ‘Open’ and ‘OMS’ categories. While OPEN is mentioned as the first category OMS is the last category to be selected through the drop down menu. This prompts Outside Maharashtra candidates to click on ‘Open’ category instead of the last mentioned ‘OMS’ category. Candidates of Outside Maharashtra (OMS) category should choose only OMS and not Open category. Detailed explanation is shared below to guide you how to fill the correct category

Category- ‘OPEN’: This is only for Open (General) category candidates belonging to Maharashtra state (MS). Hence only MS candidates of open category should choose ‘OPEN’ category.

Please remember No ‘MS’candidate from SC/ST/OBC/VJDT/SBC /NT(B)/NT(C)/NT(D) categories should fill up Open category.

Category-Reserved: SC ST OBC VJDT SBC NT(B) NT(C) NT(D)

This category is also for Maharashtra State candidates only. Before filling up the application form, candidate should ensure that they have Caste/Tribe Certificate/Validity for SC/ST/OBC/VJDT/SBC /NT(B)/NT(C)/NT(D) categories and Non Creamy Layer (NCL) Certificate for OBC/SBC/VJDT/NT1/NT(B)/NT(C).

Category-OMS: All outside Maharashtra State (OMS) Candidates who do not fall into any types of Maharashtra State category candidature should choose OMS only. If you are an OMS candidate belonging to any of the reserved category even, you are supposed to choose OMS category.

In no case an ‘OMS’ candidate should select ‘Open’ or any of the reserved categories.

Selecting 3 preferred exam cities
MAHCET 2015 for admission to MBA/MMS 2015-17 batch is proposed to be conducted in 61 cities across the country on March 14 & 15, 2015 in multiple sessions. Although the application form doesn’t allow you to choose the preferred session, the application form has the facility to fill up 3 preferred city choices to appear in the exam.

For Maharashtra state candidates there is no dearth of test centres. Even the OMS candidates can choose the most preferred 3 exam cities in Maharashtra out of many available.

However for OMS candidates planning to appear at the exam centre outside Maharashtra, state capitals of prominent states are the only available options.

There is no exam centre, not even the state capital is the exam city in number of states. Candidates have to choose the 3 most preferred exam centres which are most close to their native or working place.

There is no exam centre in any of the 7 North East (NE) states nor the states of Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Tamilnadu Uttarakhand, have any exam centre for MAHCET 2015. A candidate from NE states or Odisha has to choose Kolkata; from all southern states has to choose Bangalore and Panaji; from Himachal has to choose Delhi and Srinagar (J&K); from Uttarakhand has to choose Delhi and Lucknow. The selection has to be judiciously made.

It is advised to select the most nearby exam centres as the 3 most preferred choices. If you have faster Rail or road link to the cities of Maharashtra and the journey is not so tiring, the choice of cities in Maharashtra can also be explored according to your convenience. Please give a proper thought while selecting your exam cities and then only fill them up in the application form.
