With JBIMS Mumbai out of fray, the MAHCET 2015 got lukewarm response from the candidates

Curtains for MAHCET 2015 were drawn on March 15, 2015 after DTE conducting the exam for 2nd consecutive day. MAHCET 2015 for admission to MBA/PGDM programmes in 2015 began on Saturday March 14 and concluded on March 15, 2015.

With JBIMS Mumbai out of fray, the MAHCET 2015 got lukewarm response from the candidates. From admission session 2015-16 JBIMS has been declared an autonomous B school affiliated to University of Mumbai. It would conduct its own admission process and would accept only CAT 2014 and MAHCET 2015 scores. Those who have already applied to JBIMS with their CAT 2014 scores do not need to register and apply to MAHCET 2015, a factor that caused a huge dip in number of registrations for MAHCET 2015.
On the final day of MAHCET 2015, DTE couldn’t garner a good strength. Number of centres across India didn’t see even one third of the registered candidates supposed to take test at the test venue on the second and final day of the test.

Those who appeared in the test found it moderate with few difficult and time consuming questions in each of the 3 sections. Test of Logical and Abstract reasoning was bit more time consuming. Verbal Ability section was moderate while Quant was doable.

There was no surprise element on the final day of MAHCET 2015. The test has been rated moderate with a mix of questions. The exam could be rated as closer to MAHCET 2014. Students should however expect higher merit position with higher scores both sectional as well as overall.

The aspirants who appeared on the final day of MAHCET 2015 on March 15 tried to give their best shot in the exam as the test was slightly easier although questions in Verbal Ability and and Quant sections were of mixed type containing more moderate and a few difficult questions. Data interpretation had more time consuming questions. Nevertheless, despite a few difficult and tricky questions the test was moderate overall and candidates could attempt very well in a range of 120-150 questions. Since MAHCET 2015 has no negative marking candidates also used the guess work well to mark the probable answers and are hopeful that they hit atleast 50% of them correct.

Quantitative Aptitude

Questions in this section were doable but time consuming. Many questions called for quick tricks and formula application and aspirants with conceptual clarity and good practice were able to solve these questions. There were more questions on Arithmetic and Algebra. A few questions from Geometry also made their appearance in the test.  Data Interpretation questions were in sets as well as individual ones. They were more calculation based and time consuming.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

The final day of MAHCET 2015 exam had moderate questions in Verbal Ability section. Questions on error corrections in sentences were divided in four sections and the error from one of the sections had to be spotted. If there was no error option 5 had to be marked as answer.

Another type was that out of 4 sentences forming a paragraph, candidates had to Read the each sentence to find out whether there is any grammatical error in the sentence.

There were questions to fill in the blanks with appropriate words in a short paragraph. With simple and correct understanding of grammar and vocabulary usage, candidates could answer the same well.

MAHCET 2015 had questions to complete the concluding part of the sentence and find the first sentence of the paragraph. Options were close ones.

Questions on Jumbled paragraphs were of random type as well as with opening or concluding sentence given in the question. Candidates were required to form a coherent paragraph for the remaining sentences taking lead from the beginning and concluding sentences.

Questions were also formed on core grammar like Active passive; reported speech; conditionals; modifiers and picking out correct synonyms and antonyms. Apart from this Moderate questions, the questions on Analogy also made their presence in Verbal Ability section.

The RC passages were short but were followed by number of questions including questions like synonyms, antonyms as used in the passage. The level of difficulty was moderate and the questions were in direct context to the passage.

Candidates, who could solve 35-40 questions correct in this section, would improve their overall percentile to a good extent to get admission in one of the top rated B schools.

Logical and Abstract Reasoning

The first part was on Logical reasoning followed by second part on Abstract Reasoning. The first part had questions set following the given data; questions on series, statements, true false among others. Second part had questions like formation of words in a coded language and the candidates were required to find out the correct code for the given word.

Questions on series, arrangements, puzzles were although not very difficult but consumed a lot of time
