One of the shortest placement season ever at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) Mumbai, now an autonomous B school of University of Mumbai has again maintained its legacy of 100% placement with more offers and variety of profiles which saw increase in placement packages. Large number of students opted for the Front-End Investment Banking Profile with various companies including Barclays Capital offering this coveted role.

 

JBIMS has always been one of the most preferred campuses for recruiters and the incredibly successful placement season for the Batch of 2015 only goes on to serve as a testimony of the faith that the industry places on the quality of students of JBIMS. Prof. Balkrishna Parab, the Placement Co-ordinator at JBIMS, says “This year our focus was on making more diverse opportunities available to our students so that the multitude of interests of the students are adequately catered to. A great response from the industry and the matching skill sets of the students has helped us in achieving this goal and delivering another hugely successful executive placement season.”

 

Annual packages up

 

Beating the slowdown in placement offers, the placement season 2015 at JBIMS saw a rise in average salary by Rs.1.24 lakhs. The average salary increased from Rs.16.18 lakhs in placement 2014 to Rs. 17.42 lakhs in placement 2015. Median salary also increased from Rs.14.5 lakhs per annum in 2014 to Rs. 15.5 lakhs in 2015.  The highest salary in placement 2015 increased by Rs 9 lakhs from Rs.26 lakhs in 2014 to Rs. 35 lakhs in 2015.

 

Number of Recruiters

 

Placement 2015 witnessed a registration of 82 recruiters out of whom 75 visited the campus for placement. Number of new recruiters also visited the campus. CRC, JBIMS says “New relationships were fostered with various corporations that recruited for the first time”.
 

BFSI tops Sectoral placements

 

Banking Finance Services and insurance (BFSI) sector topped the list by placing 44% of the offers.  Next was FMCG and pharma with 25% offers. Telecom, e-commerce and IT made 12% offers while consulting made 11% offers respectively. Manufacturing & Conglomerate sector made rest 8% offers.

 

Diverse Batch profile

 

JBIMS batch of class 2013-15 has 117 candidates participating in campus placement 2015. The diversity of the batch is reflected in the fact that it contains a good mix of engineers, doctors, pharmacists, entrepreneurs, physiotherapists, architects, commerce and arts graduates comprising the best talent from across the country. To add on to their knowledge of business many students took professional courses and certifications such as CFA, Master of Business Laws, FRM. Engineers with experience in diverse fields such as construction, power sector, shipping industry, social media, banking services and IT consultancies form the core of the batch. The versatile backgrounds of the students attracted diverse and niche profiles from different companies.

 

89% Engineers

 

Out of the batch of 117 students 89% are from Engineering background. Rest 11% consists of students from Medicine, Science, Commerce and Management back ground.

 

29% Freshers

 

Out of the batch of 117 students 29% are the freshers and the rest 71% candidates have a work experience in a range from less than 1 year to more than 3 years.  All the candidates found their placement in their preferred domain

 

PPOs

 

More than 50% of the Batch received PPIs and PPOs.  62 pre-placement offers and interviews were offered by companies like Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank, HSBC, JP Morgan, Colgate Palmolive, Mahindra, ITC, Marico, Tata Steel, Nomura, ICICI Bank, Vodafone, Flipkart, Syngenta, Tata Capital, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services.
