Get good B school at low percentile as despite the low scores you have secured better place in National Merit List declared by AICTE on the basis of CMAT Feb 2015 scores

Declaring the result and scores of CMAT Feb 2015 exam, a computer based online test, conducted from Feb 19 to Feb 22, 2015, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced the All India Merit list based on the scores obtained by the candidates in computer based Common Management Admission Test. The CMAT merit list indicates Roll number, Rank and the Score of all the candidates. CMAT 2015 second test score will remain valid for the admissions in academic year 2015-16.

Compensate your CAT/XAT scores with CMAT scores

Candidates who appeared in CAT 2014 and XAT 2015 but couldn’t score high enough to explore admission opportunity in a good B school, got another chance in the form of CMAT Feb 2015 to score high and grab admission opportunity in one of the good B schools. Number of B schools who accept CAT/XAT scores are also offering admission on the basis of CMAT scores.

Top B schools: Still open with admission process

There are number of B schools that are open with their admission application process. Besides specialized MBA programmes in highly ranked B schools exist where admission opportunity can still be explored. Admission in MBA/PGDM programmes in Great lakes, IFIM, IFMR, specialized programmes in BIMTECH Greater Noida, MBA Programmes in UPES Dehradun and many more B schools is available on the basis of CMAT scores.

Low score: Turn it into opportunity

Most of the candidates taking CMAT Feb 2015 appeared in the exam to improve their scores over CMAT 2015 first test. But the low scoring pattern in CMAT 2015 second test might have not yielded the desired improvement in scores. The highest score in CMAT Feb 2015 has dipped by 18 raw marks in comparison to the highest score in CMAT Sep 2014 and the general pattern of average scores has also not shown any improvement of percentile over CMAT 2015 first test. A few candidates have however reported that they have secured more marks in CMAT Feb 2015 exam than they secured in CMAT 2015 first test.

The low scoring pattern can be turned into a boon as you can seek admission to good B schools across the country with higher rank at low score. It can enable you to get good B school at low percentile as despite the low scores you have secured better place in National Merit List declared by AICTE on the basis of CMAT Feb 2015 scores. Not only this, your percentile score might have also improved at a lesser score compared to the score in CMAT 2015 first test.

Forget raw scores: Your percentile improved

Even at a low score in CMAT Feb 2015 a candidate might have improved his percentile over CMAT 2015 first test. The highest score in CMAT 2015 first test held in Sep 2014 was 323 and in CMAT 2015 second test held in Feb 2015 it is 305. Both the scores would be rated same and would qualify for 100 percentile. A candidate scoring 300 in CMAT 2015 first test was awarded a percentile of 99.98, whereas the candidates scoring 271 in CMAT 2015 second test has been awarded a percentile score of 99.98. Hence the dip in scores in CMAT Feb 2015 has brightened your chances to get a better B school with a low score.

CAT/XAT raw scores not considered

If you go for close observation, you will find that AICTE has awarded CMAT scores as raw scores as well as percentile scores in the National Merit List declared alongwith CMAT Feb 2015 result.

If you have a good place in the list, you will stand a good chance in comparison to other exams.  For example a CAT or XAT 90+ percentile does not reflect true score. The raw marks might have been very low but CMAT Feb 2015 first rank holder at 305 out of 400 becomes 100 percentiler when the score of CAT/XAT/CMAT are compared. With this gap in number of candidates and scores you could choose any of the top 10 B schools accepting CMAT scores.

Expect admission at lower cut off

With dip in scores, candidates scoring a moderate raw score can expect to be offered admission in a good B school. There are only 100 candidates above the score of 236 in CMAT Feb 2015. It is expected that the candidates in top B schools can get admission at a reduced cut off by 15-20 marks as against the earlier anticipated cut off.

Opportunity in Maharashtra B schools

If you have registered and applied for MAHCET 2015, you also stand a good chance of getting g admission in any of the top B schools in Maharashtra on the basis of CMAT 2015, first or second test scores or on the basis of scores of MAHCET 2015, the result of which has also been declared on March 25, 2015. Maharashtra B schools will offer admission on the basis of the best scores in any of the entrance examinations like CAT, XAT, CMAT and MAHCET 2015.

Although JBIMS, Mumbai wouldn’t consider your candidature on the basis of CMAT scores as it will accept only CAT 2014 and MAHCET 2015 scores for MBA/MMS admission 2015, all other B schools like SIMSREE, KJ Somaiya, PUMBA, SIES, IESMCRC, NL Dalmiya, DSIMS, Singad and many more will offer admission on the basis of CMAT scores. Except JBIMS all other B schools will participate and offer admission through Centralized Admission Process (CAP) to be conducted by DTE Maharashtra in April/May 2015. Since JBIMS has been awarded the autonomous status, it will conduct its own next state of admission round.

Varying score Weightage in B schools: Don’t miss

The declaration of scores in CMAT Feb 2015 result is section wise as well as overall. Which section is supposed to get more weightage by the B school in the shortlisting criteria has been left to the respective B school admission process. AICTE states “Admission authorities and institutions, however, will be free to take their own decision at the time of admission as to what weightage they wish to give to a particular section.”

There are some B schools who give more weightage to English Language Comprehension and Logical Reasoning; a few find that Quant and DI should be given more weightage; few others prefer the candidates with better score in Logical reasoning and General Awareness.

This diversity in score consideration can also be a great help to you to explore admission opportunity in good B school on the basis of CMAT scores.
