NMIMS celebrates Convocation 2015 with Suresh Prabhu, Union Rly Minister as Chief Guest

NMIMS Deemed to be University held its 2015 Convocation recently at its Mumbai campus wherein 600 students were conferred MBA degree and 2 were awarded Ph. D degree in Management. The Chief Guest and Convocation Speaker this year was Union Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu.

The Convocation was presided over by the Chancellor of the University Mr. Amrish Patel. Vice Chancellor Dr.Rajan Saxena, while congratulating the students and their families on this proud moment, said that for most management graduates MBA degree is a terminal degree in education and would now enter the portals of University of Life, where the lessons are going to be different from what they had so far.

He urged graduating students to be a responsible global citizen and sensitive to the society and environment. They need to exhibit integrity, respect diversity and develop a tolerant worldview.

While highlighting the major accomplishments in previous year, Dr. Saxena mentioned the significance of takeover of NMIMS Management entrance test NMAT by GMAC and recommendation of NMIMS Bengaluru for AMBA accreditation.

Congratulating graduates, Shri Suresh Prabhu, Chief Guest on this occasion said getting a degree from institute like NMIMS is a great achievement and he was sure it was going to make difference in the life of the graduates. Speaking on the occasion Shri Prabhu said, “I believe that one man can change the world, but he has to have courage, perseverance and commitment to challenge the reality and change the world”.

Convocation is a transition point of one’s life, where one confronts reality being different from romanticism. Romanticism is also important in life which helps one set high ambitions high but understanding its limitations and the reality makes a good manager.

Talking about the country’s growth, Shri Prabhu said the difference in the potential of growth and the real growth is due to lack of proper management. India needs to manage properly its physical, financial and human resources. The country is one of the world’s largest nations in terms of population, and hence need a large number of managers to manage the economy.

He said that the responsibility to manage the society and the resources is of those who have the ability to understand and capacity to make change. Prabhu expressed his desire to meet all the students after 20 years to listen their stories of success and how they contributed to bring the change.
