30 women entrepreneurs have successfully completed the IIM Bangalore’s 11th Management Programme for Women Entrepreneurs (MPWE).  IIM bangalore hosted the MPWE programme valedictory on May 16, 2015. The course was coordinated by the NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL).

Delivering the key note address on the occasion Ms. Akila Krishnakumar, Former-President Global Solution Centres at SunGuard said, “Entrepreneurship is a lifestyle and not just a job. For all the highs of being an entrepreneur, there are a lot of lows as well. There are a lot of reasons people choose to be entrepreneurs; for some it is power, for some it is legacy, and for some others, it is about being different. However, legacy is not just about building a multi-million dollar company; it is about establishing relationships with customers and employees. It is about building a network of people.”

Advising the women entrepreneurs, Ms. Krishnakumar said, “Most people do not expect women entrepreneurs to succeed. Surprise them. No load of expectations is a very powerful motivator”.

Professor Rajluxmi V Murthy, MPWE Programme Co-Director, stated that out of 135 applications, they shortlisted women who were already running ventures to bring in dynamics and to enable them to take away something tangible from the programme. Conducive, practical learning was laid emphasis on.

Professor Sabarinathan G, Chairperson, NSRCEL, said, “Over the years, the course has evolved. The programme has been redesigned to encourage and equip the students with tools that may come of use.”  Adding further the professor said “To be an entrepreneur requires a lot of courage. Making the decision to take the plunge is half the battle”. He thanked the directors, Professor Rajluxmi V Murthy and Professor Mukta Kulkarni; mentors, faculty and all others who were instrumental in making this programme successful.

Sharing their experiences MPWE  participants namely Srijata Bhatnagar, Kadambri Umapathy, termed the valedictory as a dream come true to be a part of IIM and were of the view that the course gave them more than what they had expected. The course was flexible and evolving; the mentoring was exceptional that made the course effective.

About IIMB-NSRCEL

Nadathur S Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) was set up in March 2002 as a focal point for entrepreneurial studies at IIM Bangalore. The centre facilitates business growth through academic research by scholars and practical learning for entrepreneurs.

NSRCEL was envisioned as a world-class centre for excellence in seeding, nurturing and promoting entrepreneurship with emphasis on start-ups and existing organisations with high growth potential. NSRCEL’s objective is, therefore, to help entrepreneurs channelize their energy and talent towards transforming their ideas into successful companies. It does so by guiding them in understanding specific opportunities for business growth and helping them access the resources they require.

NSRCEL not only trains entrepreneurs and promotes entrepreneurship but also runs an incubator cell for start-up companies. The incubation support is not limited to any specific sectors; however it has tended to be engaged to a greater extent with companies from the Information and Communication Technology, Clean Technology and Embedded Systems and Design sectors.

Located within the academic space at the serene IIM Bangalore campus, NSRCEL offers extensive engagement with industry in order to channelize and refine raw entrepreneurial energies that go on to become successful businesses. The Centre draws upon both the IIMB faculty and industry experts to provide mentoring support. .
