The XAT 08 was tougher than last years, believes Mr Madhur Naneria, VP – Knowledge Resources Group (KRG), Indore based PT Education.

While responding to a query on MBAUniverse.com Live Expert Chat on January 07, Mr Naneria said, "If I compare each section of XAT 08 with XAT 07, then Maths is tougher, DI is Moderate, DS is Tougher and Analytical Reasoning is Moderate. Overall if we compare with the last year, we are seeing XAT 08 to be tough." Read on for edited excerpts from the MBAUniverse.com Live Chat with PT Education.

Neeraj: Hello sir, I have prepared a lot. I did really well in paper. I want to get into XLRI, Jamshedpur. What cut-offs do you expect for XLRI.
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: Nice to know you did well at the test. As of now it is slightly early for give any cut-offs. Our team is working on solving the entire test. But as per our discussions with the students who had taken the test, average attempts have been in the range of 40-45 questions. So we can assume that an expected tentative cut-off could be in the range of 33 marks.

Setu: I want to know what will be the cut-offs for each of the three sections in XAT for XLRI only. Thanks.
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: XLRI definitely has sectional cut-offs. Other institutes did not have the same till the last year, but we may see one or more institutes implementing the same from this year! Till then we have to keep our fingers crossed.

Neha: Hi sir, what cut-offs are u are expecting for top B-schools accepting XAT scores?
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: The final ones will be available by the evening only. Hope that gives you sufficient information:

XIM B - 30-31 marks
LIBA - 28 - 30 marks
GIM - 27 - 28 marks
Pankaj: Sir, if we compare the XAT 2008 paper from last year. How would you compare the paper?
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: My reply to the question is section-wise:

Maths - Tough (specially the questions on Geometry)
DI - Moderate (some questions were solvable)
DS - Tough questions here Language - Tough (specially the Decision making questions)
Analytical Reasoning - Moderate
Overall if we compare with the last year, we are seeing the test to be Tough!

Rajat: Gud morning sir, I read on MBAUniverse.com that there was some error in the options of one question. Is it true...What do you comment on this?
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: Not sure about this right now. The team is checking the entire test. In case there are some, the same will be reported on our website soon. Please do specify the specific Question Number where you feel there is a problem so that we can doubly check the same.

Rajat: Sir, I am almost sure that there is an error in Q no. 56{set b}. The data set itself is wrong. Please check and let us know.
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: OK. Will surely do the same. You will find the details on our website by the evening.

Meenal: I found quantitative section the toughest. What should I do to improve my future performance in this section? Please give me a detailed answer. I am a commerce graduate looking for CAT 08 and XAT etc next year.
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: A lot of practice is needed here. If you specifically look at the type of questions you see in CAT and XAT (for Maths), there is a difference right now. But the preparation you need to do is almost the same. Maths has been easy in CAT for the last 2 years, but compare the current XAT test with CAT 2004 / 2005 Maths and you will understand what I am saying. So the only way for you is to do a lot of practice ... no specific books as such available in the markets ... but the study material by a few of the training institutes is good and provides ample practice. Work on your basics ... will help you in the long run!
Akhil: Dear sir, my question is different from today's topic of chat. Most of the exams are over now. What is your advice on GD/PI rounds…highly appreciate your advice sir..
Mr Madhur Naneria, VP - KRG, PT Education: Dear Akhil ... beautiful question ...! This is the time when every individual targeting a good B-school has to start with his / her GD-PI Preparation. The only thing I can say is that "You cannot delay it any more"
Start with specific preparation. Some of the important points can be:

1. Do a lot of reading. Be fully prepared on your General & Current Awareness
2. Start getting ready for a PI.
3. Work on your Academics or Work experience as needed
4. Get your resume ready
5. Prepare standard answers to PI Questions like "Why do you want to do an MBA", "What are you short-term and long term goals etc"
6. Make a group and start practicing your GD ... be careful about your Body-Language, content, and the way you are presenting yourself in the group!
Well this is just the beginning ... a lot can be said about this! These are just a few points to get you started. Best Wishes!
