CAT 2015 going to be convened by IIM Ahmedabad in partnership with testing agency TCS proposes to have more test centres than ever before since CAT has gone green and switched over to computer based exam from paper-pencil based exam.
Sharing with MBAUniverse.com CAT 2015 convener and Admission Chair at IIM Ahmedabad, Professor Tathagata Bandyopadhyay says “In order to increase accessibility, the number of cities where CAT will be held is increased to 115 this year from last year's 99”
The changes and innovations have been anticipated right from the date when Asia’s No.1 Business School, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad was assigned the responsibility to convene CAT 2015. Aspirants may expect more such changes and announcements from CAT 2015 convening IIM Ahmedabad as the exam further aims to be more aspirant friendly and convenient for all the test takers.
Earlier CAT had few test centres
For the first time in CAT 2014 the exam was held in 99 cities at 354 testing sites as against 40 testing cities with 76 testing centres in earlier CAT years. This number of 99 cities has further been increased to 115 test cities in CAT 2015 signifying more accessibility and more test cities nearby. CAT 2015 convener Prof Bandyopadhyay has planned more test cities to make the exam more aspirant friendly and to cope with the high number of CAT 2015 aspirants across the country.
Since there would be 16 more test cities in CAT 2015, number of test venues may also increase by 30 to 40 along with yet higher number of test labs as each of the test venues has 3-4 test labs. It is anticipated that this will increase the test venues to 400+.
Facility to schedule the exam & test centre: May not be available
It is possible that CAT 2015 aspirants may not be able to schedule their test at the preferred test centre in the preferred slot at the time of registration and application. This big facility was withdrawn in CAT 2014. However it is expected that the facility to choose 3 preferred test cities would be available to the CAT 2015 aspirants at the time of Registration which would open sometime in the first week of August 2015.
Out of the preferred test cities, it is expected that CAT 2015 centre will allot the aspirant the most preferred cities or one of the selected cities along with testing centre and session on random basis as per the availability.
The allotment of test city and test venue shall be made after the last date for registration of CAT 2015 is over. Hence the choice of choosing the test centre may not be in the hands of the aspirant. Besides allotment of the CAT 2015 exam session may also be made by CAT 2015 centre, so the facility of choosing the preferred session may also be withdrawn in CAT 2015.
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015 is the mandatory exam for admission to IIMs and other top rated B schools for admission session 2016-17. The notification for CAT 2015 will be released by IIM Ahmedabad on July 26, 2015 and the registration process for CAT 2015 is proposed to open in first week of August 2015. The computer based CAT 2015 test is supposed to be conducted in the month of October 2015. There may not be any facility to buy CAT 2015 voucher Off- line and the entire application process as well as the registration activity will have to completed on-line only.
CAT is reviewed every year by CAT group comprising the stake holders responsible to conduct CAT. Every year the aim is to bring about more and more improvements and make CAT more aspirant friendly. On the same lines review meetings to bring certain changes in CAT 2015 at operational as well as at content level have been held and in due course more aspirant friendly changed pattern of CAT 2015 will be before the candidates.
