Sponsored by apex financial institutions namely IDBI Bank, IFCI, ICICI and State Bank of India (SBI), the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) Ahmedabad was set up in 1983 with the vision to inculcate Entrepreneurship skills among management aspirants. EDI believes that entrepreneurs need not necessarily be born, but can be developed through well-conceived and well-directed activities.

EDI offers 2 years PGDM-BE and PGDM-DS programmes. EDI students prefer launching their own ventures instead of participating in placement process as has happened in past placement seasons. Students of EDI instead of searching a job that kills the creativity prefers sharpening their entrepreneurship skills after completing their PGDM (Business Entrepreneurship) although high placement is also offered by prominent recruiters to EDI students.

Prof Sunil Shukla, Director: Entrepreneurship education expert
The recently announced appointment of Prof Sunil Shukla as Director of EDI at its 16th Convocation will further enhance the entrepreneurship strengths of the B school. Prof Shukla a Ph.D. in Psychology and an expert on training in the areas of organizational behaviour, human resource management, entrepreneurship education and development of youth will take over the charge from July 1, 2015. EDI students launch entrepreneurship ventures
2 of EDI’s PGDM pass outs instead of participating in campus placement process have chosen to start entrepreneurship ventures in truck business unique of its kind and instead of getting recruited have embarked on the path of recruiting other MBAs. Both the ventures are innovative and first of their kind – one is a food truck restaurant named Restron-Wheel Food Truck and other ventures is an e-truck online business named aggregator Returntruck.com which would helps companies book a returning empty truck to its original location at a fabulous discount.

To support the launching of their business, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) has provided financial support of Rs. 6 lakhs to its students entering into entrepreneurship ventures. Overwhelmed with the entrepreneurship vision of the students, EDI Prof Satya Ranjan Acharya  says "This is the first round of funding, so that they can immediately start their ventures  and if they need subsequent support, other players can jump in".
