After keeping the post of full time Chairman of AICTE vacant for about 6 months, MHRD has finally announced the appointment of Dr Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe as the new Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) the regulatory body of higher and technical education in the country. At present Dr Sahasrabudhe is the Director and Secretary Board of Governors, College of Engineering Pune (COEP). Dr Sahasrabudhe will take over the charge of AICTE Chairman from July 2015 for a term of 3 years.

Dr Sahasrabudhe is a graduate with gold medal in Mechanical Engineering from BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli under Karnataka University. He is also a Doctorate from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Dr Sahasrabudhe has served as a faculty member at IIT Guwahati for 11 years and was also a lecturer at NERIST, Itanagar (Imphal). In 2006 he joined College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) as its Director. During his tenure as Director, CoEP he has been working with the vision to take CoEP to the next level with a view to enriching the life of every student who enters CoEP.

Dr Sahasrabudhe has 23 years of academic and teaching experience. He is also a member of the MHRD committee headed by higher education secretary Satyanarayan Mohanty to determine land requirement for central higher educational institutions.

The appointment of Dr Anil Sahasrabudhe will fill the vacuum as the post of AICTE Chairman has been lying vacant since January 2, 2015 when Dr Shankar S Mantha, the then AICTE Chairman relinquished office after occupying the position for 3 years. During his tenure Dr Mantha came to be known for implementing radical changes to bring transparency and accountability in administration at AICTE.

Applications from renowned persons in the field of technical education for the post of AICTE chairman for a term of 3 years were invited by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). However it took MHRD about 6 months to finalize the appointment. During the period Dr Avinash S Pant, Vice Chairman AICTE had to perform the duties also as Acting Chairman of AICTE.

AICTE has acquired a status of regulator of management education apart from technical education in India. Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has also asked AICTE to continue as the regulator of Management Education instead of UGC. The updated website of AICTE under Bureaux section can give the entire information on alumni, faculty members along with their qualifications. One can even see the registration documents, affidavits and land documents.

With Dr Sahasrabudhe in command now, it is expected that AICTE will turn into reality the much needed improvement and making the Indian Management Education put the global foot print deeper across the world. The vision 2025 document released on the occasion of 5th edition of Indian Management Conclave organized by MBAUniverse.com in August 2014 has a fair blue print on the envisaged future of Indian Management Education. The document was also very much appreciated by Dr S S Mantha who actively participated at IMC 2014 and delivered an inspiring address to the august house of 300 delegates from top B schools in India and abroad. The 6th edition of IMC 2015 is going to be hosted by ISB Hyderabad at their campus on July 29 & 30, 2015 to discuss more on Indian Management Education.
