SMU MBA programme offers a large number of scholarships for the full time MBA students and while for some scholarships students have to separately apply, for some awards there is no need for separate application

Established in 2000, Singapore Management University (SMU) was the first publicly funded autonomous university in Singapore and is built on the model of University of Pennsylvania-Wharton. Their collaboration is augmented by the Wharton-SMU Research Center, giving Wharton a physical presence in Asia.  MBA courses at Singapore Management University were launched in 2008 at Lee Kong Chian School of Business.

Accredited by AACSB and EQUIS, SMU is one of the youngest universities to receive accreditation from the 2 international bodies. The Lee Kong Chian School of Business of the Singapore Management University is a dynamic Asian business school with over a hundred full-time faculty and more than two thousand five hundred students and is ranked amongst the top schools for its Finance and Accounting programs.

Singapore Management University offers a full time MBA which can be completed in 12 months and the tuition fee is S$62,209.80 The SMU MBA comprises of 8 core courses and a minimum of 10 electives which prepare MBA participants for careers in Human Resources, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Business Development and Consulting. Students are also actively involved in case studies and global immersion programmes.

The SMU MBA programme offers a large number of scholarships for the full time MBA students and while for some scholarships students have to separately apply, for some awards there is need for separate application.

SMU MBA Scholarships
SMU offers scholarship in the following categories which require separate application.  Award amounts range from S$10,000 to S$15,000. No bonds are attached to these scholarships.

1. Leadership
2. Community Impact
3. Entrepreneurship
4. Diversity
5. Academic Excellence

Essay questions for topics in Leadership, Community Impact and Entrepreneurship are provided by SMU. Applicants must write essays in the given questions on a category of their choice.

The Diversity and Academic Excellence Scholarships do not require any applications.

How to choose the category
The categories are chosen as per the candidate’s interest and how well the students can respond to the essay questions in the category. For example, the latest essay question under Entrepreneurship category is ‘What are your future plans for your company?” whereas one of the essays under Leadership was ‘Describe a situation in which you played a leadership role?’

Eligibility
These scholarships are open to all nationalities and only admitted students can further apply.

SMU-ASEAN Scholarships
These scholarships do not require any separate application. Scholarship amount ranges from S$5,000 to S$10,000

Eligibility
Except for the candidates from Singapore, the scholarships are open to all nationalities. However, only the admitted students are considered for the awards.

DBS MBA Valedictorian Award
The Valedictorian of each MBA class will be awarded S$5,000 cash prize by DBS Bank Ltd.

MasterCard MBA Scholarships for Women
MasterCard Asia shall fund upto two bond-free scholarships worth S$10,000 per year to female students with strong leadership potential and a passion for community services. The sole purpose of these scholarships is to encourage more female students to pursue postgraduate education.

Eligibility
Successfully admitted to the SMU full time MBA class
Resident of APMEA (Asia Pacific Middle East Africa)
Outstanding academic records
Experience in community services and corporate social responsibility work
Excellent leadership and entrepreneurial skills
Special consideration for those who can demonstrate financial need

BW Maritime Scholarships
The BW Maritime Scholarships are particularly awarded to students who have experience and interest in the energy sector.  The scholarship amount is generally S$15,000 for each and is bond-free.

Eligibility
Open to candidates of all nationalities who have been admitted to the SMU MBA programme
Experience and interest for careers in maritime/shipping/oil and gas industries
Strong academic records
Outstanding leadership skills
Special consideration for those who can demonstrate financial need.

Loans
State Bank of India (SBI) provides loans exclusively to students from India who have secured admission in SMU and other institutions in Singapore and abroad.

Other bank loans available are CIMB Bank Loans, POSB Further Study Assistance and RHB EDU Loan.

Apart from the scholarships mentioned above, SMU offers other scholarships designed only for Singaporean residents and other APEC countries such as the APEC Scholarship, Lien Foundation Scholarship among others.

MBA Abroad aspirants must carefully choose when it comes to a business school. The young MBA programme from SMU is one of the best in Singapore. This coupled with a large number of financial assistance made available makes SMU a good bet.
