Out of the proposed new IIMs announced in the budget session 2014-15, five have been able to launch their websites accessible in public domain
The intake in the first PGP batch 2015-17 at the proposed new IIMs may vary from 60 to 140 students in accordance with the capacity at temporary campus of each of these IIMs

Out of the proposed new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) announced in the budget session 2014-15, five have been able to launch their websites accessible in public domain while the website of 6th IIM at Visakhapatnam is to be launched shortly. All of these proposed new IIMs have geared up to take off in the academic session 2015-16 between July to September 2015

Among the proposed IIMs who have begun their admission process and have launched the websites,  IIM Nagpur in Maharashtra was the first to achieve this feat, followed by IIM Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh. IIM Bihar to be set up at BodhGaya was the next followed by IIM Amritsar in Punjab and now the admission process with launching of website of IIM Sambalpur in Odisha has also begun.  Although the website for IIM Visakhapatnam is yet to be launched, the admission process for IIMV has already begun and as per the information shared by IIM Bangalore (mentor IIM for IIMV) they are waiting for certain approvals from MHRD after which IIM Visakhapatnam will take off in a bigway.

It implies that all the proposed new IIMs will commence operations after finalizing the admission process in the academic session 2015-16. IIMs are known by their cities where they are located and not by their states. Accordingly IIM Calcutta the mentor for IIM Bihar shall have to change the name of IIM Bihar to IIM BodhGaya or IIM Gaya on its site.

In the Cabinet committee meeting held on  June 24, 2015 it has been decided that each of the proposed 6 new IIMs will have an intake of 140 students in the first PGP batch 2015-17 but due to lack of infrastructure and lack of sufficient hostel accommodation in the temporary campuses, it may not be possible for these upcoming IIMs to accommodate such a large number of students in the first batch.
