Despite getting the new chairman Dr Anil D. Sahasrabudhe AICTE has not woken up to release notification for CMAT 2016 (first test)
Either there is not going to be any CMAT in the year 2015 or it has been stopped from being held in future

Despite getting the new chairman Dr Anil D. Sahasrabudhe AICTE has not woken up to release notification for CMAT 2016 (first test). All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) the regulator of technical and management education in India had the legacy of announcing first CMAT for the academic session in the coming year as early as in the first week of July every year. Now entire month of July 2015 is going to be over and the notifications for the MBA/PGDM entrance exams like CAT 2015 and IIFT 2015 which will be held in the month of November 2015 have been released but AICTE is still sleeping.

Is CMAT stopped for future; AICTE silent
MBAUniverse.com tried to get the response from AICTE and MHRD by mailing them and asking about the proposed release of notification. But till date there is no reply from either of the two.

MHRD also does not appear to have any concern on it else AICTE could have released the notification. All it proves one of the two things- either there is not going to be any CMAT in the year 2015 or it has been stopped from being held in future. The 3rd implication could be that instead of 2 CMAT exams, only 1 would be held or there would be inordinately delayed CMAT for admission to academic session 2016-17. On the top of it there is no clarification on AICTE site in regard to conduct of future CMAT exams.

It shows the apathy of the technical and management education regulator of India and indifferent attitude of Ministry of HRD, Government of India as neither of the two has tried to address the concern of CMAT aspirants.

Registration process for September CMAT examination used to open in the first 4-5 days of July every year, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has allowed the entire July 2015 to pass by without any indication when they are going to announce the CMAT Sep 2015 exam. Candidates prefer appearing in CMAT Sep exam as it is held just before CAT and IIFT entrance exams and they are motivated and confident to score high in the first CMAT.

CMAT, if clashes with CAT/IIFT and MAT…
In case CMAT is carried over to November 2015 and clash with CAT 2015 or IIFT 2015, AICTE may lose substantial registration for the CMAT. AICTE should remember that both the CMAT exams held in Sep 2014 and Feb 2015 had performed low on registrations as compared to earlier number of candidates registering for CMAT.

CMAT has so far stood out as the second largest national level entrance examination for MBA/PGDM courses across the country and has been running close to XAT. If the CMAT is delayed, skipped or not held it may lose its charm. If the delay in CMAT 2016 (first test) gets a clash of dates with CAT 2015, registrations for CMAT may further dip and it may go down to 5th or 6th position after XAT, NMAT and IIFT.

No CMAT: AICTE may lose control
If the CMAT Sep 2015 is not held, AICTE may lose control over PGDM B-schools and some other regulatory body may be formed by MHRD to step in and conduct the management entrance exam in future. Usually AICTE provides 2 opportunities to appear in CMAT for admission session commencing in the coming year; first in September and Second in February. The better of two scores are used for admission for PGDM/MBA programmes.

Second largest so far
Around 1 lac candidates register for CMAT Sep exam. Apart from B schools that accept CAT/XAT scores, there are other leading B schools who accept CMAT Sep scores. Good marks in CMAT Sep exam offer participants ample scope to get admitted into some of the highly ranked university and private B schools in the country.

Highly ranked B schools accept scores
Government and Private Universities, highly ranked B schools in 13 states have been accepting CMAT scores as the only gateway to MBA admissions under the government quota, instead of the State-administered Post graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET). The states which accept CMAT Sep scores are: Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh

The objective of CMAT exam is not to eliminate the candidates from the process of seeking admission in the AICTE approved management programmes, rather to facilitate the institutions to select the suitable candidates as per their merit.

CMAT exam was started to be conducted in 2012. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the government appointed regulator for technical education in India started conducting its own entrance test – Combined Management Admission Test or CMAT.

The delay has raised many questions whether the CMAT will be or will not be conducted this year. AICTE should clarify on the status of the proposed exam.a
