100+ B schools who will accept CAT 2015 scores for admission to academic session 2016-17. JBIMS, DSE-Delhi University, Great lakes among others are not included in the list
Would JBIMS and other B-schools not included in the list of CAT 2015 member institutes accept or not accept CAT 2015 scores for admission to MBA/PGDM batch 2016-18, remains a great confusion

Editor's Note: September 11 - IIMs have updated their list of participating institutes for CAT 2015. Great Lakes Institute of Management has been added to the list of Non-IIMs accepting CAT 2015 scores.  you can check updated institute list is on CAT 2015 Official website

JBIMS, DSE-Delhi University, Great lakes among others are not included in the list of 100+ B schools who will accept CAT 2015 scores for admission to academic session 2016-17. The list announced by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad includes 19 IIMs and 81 Non-IIMs.

One more IIM announced in the Budget session 2015-16 in Parliament by the Finance Minister and proposed to be set up this year in the state of Jammu & Kashmir is also expected to commence functioning from 2016. It will make the total tally of IIMs to 20.

Among the Non-IIM member institutions as shared by CAT Centre 2015, the highest number of B-schools is from Karnataka. The state has 14 non-IIM member B-schools out of total 81, representing more than 17% institutions.

Number of Non IIMs, accepting CAT 2015 scores for admission to the flagship MBA/PGDM batch 2016-18, appears to be the same as in the last year. However, with the establishment and commencement of operations of 6 new IIMs, the tally of CAT 2015 score accepting B-schools has crossed the mark of 100 which was 95 in 2014.

JBIMS; DSE-Delhi Univ; Great Lakes: Not in the list
Going by the list of Non-IIM member B-schools in CAT 2015, the striking fact one will come across is that there are number of B schools even the top ranked ones, who although accept CAT scores do not figure in the list shared by CAT Centre 2015. For example JBIMS, Delhi School of Economics-University of Delhi, Great Lakes Chennai among many others have not found a place in the list of non-IIM member institutes.

The query was raised before CAT Centre 2015 and the reply received from them is “The list of Non-IIM institutions appearing in the CAT website is of those institutions who have completed the required formalities with CAT Centre as on 5th August 2015. The institutes you have referred may not have completed the required formalities or may be in the process at our end to update the list”

Would JBIMS not accept CAT 2015 scores; confusion persists
Apart from above, there are number of Non-IIM B-schools who have been accepting CAT scores so far across the country. Would JBIMS and other B-schools not included in the list of CAT 2015 member institutes accept or not accept CAT 2015 scores for admission to MBA/PGDM batch 2016-18, remains a great confusion but there is no clarification so far.

Going by the response, in case these B-schools could not complete the requisite formalities by August 5, 2015, would they be allowed to complete the same at a later date and will be allowed to accept CAT 2015 scores or not, is another matter of query which has also not been responded by CAT Centre 2015.

19 Existing IIMs
There are 19 IIMs for which CAT 2015 registration and application process has opened. The 7 older IIMs include IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow and IIM Shillong.

There are also 6 newer IIMs which are around 5 year old and commenced operations in the year 2010. They are IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak, IIM Tiruchirappalli and IIM Udaipur.

Another set of 6 new IIMs have started functioning in the year 2015 with the maiden PGP batch 2015-17. While some of them have already commenced the classes others are going to shortly begin in next few days. These new IIMs are IIM Amritsar in Punjab, IIM Bodh Gaya in Bihar, IIM Nagpur in Maharashtra, IIM Sambalpur in Odisha, IIM Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh and IIM Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

IIM J&K not included
There is no mention of IIM Jammu & Kashmir in the list of IIMs-existing or proposed nor the registration for the same has been included in CAT 2015. Earlier the registration process for CAT 2014 included all the proposed 6 IIMs which have now started or going to start functioning in 2015 but despite announcing its establishment and commencement of operation in 2016, there is no mention of opening the registration process for IIM J&K. It appears MHRD has some doubt in starting the operation of IIM Jammu & Kashmir in 2016.

81 Non-IIMs
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, the CAT 2015 convening institute has released the list of 81 B schools which includes University affiliated and private B-schools across the country and will accept CAT 2015 scores as one of the admission criteria for the MBA/PGDM batch 2016-18.

The other Non-IIM category B-schools who accept CAT scores but whose names are not available in the official list of member B-schools will be allowed or not allowed to accept CAT 2015 scores is a big question now.

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015 is the prerequisite for admission to PGP 2016-18 batch of 19 IIMs offering 5500+ seats. The non-IIM category B-schools accepting CAT 2015 scores are also expected to offer admission to about 50000 students in flagship MBA/PGDM programmes 2016-18. At present there are 19 IIMs and one more in Jammu & Kashmir is proposed to commence operation from the academic session 2016-17.
