The accelerated MBA at Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) of the Singapore Management University (SMU) is designed to train candidates to become successful business leaders in Asia. The program can be completed in 12 months and prepares students to face global business challenges and be an effective leader. The admissions committee carefully picks the qualified candidates from among thousands of application and keeps the class size as small as possible. Last year only 60 candidates were selected to participate in the SMU MBA programme. Let us find out what it takes to be an SMU MBA student.

Professional Experience
Participants in current and previous classes have an average of 5-6 years full time professional experience. One of the strict requirements is that candidates must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in order to be eligible for the MBA at SMU Singapore.

Leadership Skills
The SMU MBA places strong emphasis on a candidate’s leadership skills and outstanding professional achievements. It is recommended that candidates demonstrate leadership qualities through various activities and initiatives. Demonstration of maturity and leadership skills through your personal and professional experiences is recommended.

Good Academic records
The full time MBA at SMU Singapore is accelerated and hence rigorous. Candidates must show fit for the class and must be able to demonstrate that they can bear the academic rigor. As such candidates with strong academic records including high GMAT are preferred. Importance is given to bachelors degree scores but candidates are expected to have consistent academic records all throughout their schooling and under-graduation period.

There is no minimum GMAT score but keeping in view of the selective and rigorous screening process, candidates having competitive GMAT scores (above 680) are preferred over lower GMAT scores. Preference is given to candidates having stronger than average marks in verbal, quantitative and writing sections of the GMAT.

Extra Curricular Activities
Preference is given to students who can demonstrate involvement in activities outside classroom and studies. SMU seeks students who can proactively contribute to the learning experience beyond studies. Therefore, an all rounded individual is preferred.

Social Work
One of the main motives of an MBA programme is to also teach students to make a difference in the community and give back to the society as a whole. SMU Singapore seeks students from diverse backgrounds with a desire to contribute to the society. Candidates having strong sense of community service and previous demonstration of social work are highly preferred.

Networking Skills
How well you network with your peers, faculty and other valuable contacts will be the final deciding factor on your career trajectory. The business school at SMU Singapore assists all its students (foreign and domestic) to network with local companies and helps establishes contacts.  This depends on how well you can interact with the valuable contacts you have met throughout the period.  Strong interpersonal skills, international outlook are some important traits that qualify you as an SMU Singapore MBA participant.
