CAT 2015: Girls get priority in test centre allocation; female candidate number may shoot up in IIMs

With the vision to provide level playing field for CAT 2015 Girl aspirants, IIM Ahmedabad the CAT 2015 convening IIM is all set to allot the test centre to Girl candidates near to their cities in accordance to their top choice. One of the major reasons to increase the CAT 2015 testing cities from 99 to 136 with 650 test venues is the part of the strategy to make possible the allotment of testing venue as near as possible to the 1st preferred choice of the girl candidates.

Announcing the decision taken by the CAT Centre 2015 Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay, CAT 2015 convener and faculty at IIM Ahmedabad confirms “to accommodate the female candidates in centres near the city areas as far as possible so that the travel for them could be reduced”

Move to attract more Girl candidates to take CAT 2015
To fulfil the target of inculcating interest among women candidates and to avoid any hardship they face while going to take CAT 2015 at some test centre in remote area, the CAT 2015 convener Prof Tathagata has chalked out the plan to make it possible to allot the Girl candidates test venues near their first preferred city area.

It may be noted that around 12-15% CAT aspirants do not take the exam despite submitting their registration form. This number includes hundreds of women candidates who skip the test due to non-accessibility of test centre from their place, long journey hours, problem of transportation among other issues. CAT 2015 centre in the convenership of Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay proposes to do away with all these problems so that the girl candidates may not remain absent and are able to take CAT 2015 without any difficulty.

Number of Girls in IIMs to go up
CAT 2015 proposes to bring greater gender diversity in IIMs. According to Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay, Convener CAT 2015, the move to provide level playing field “will also help IIMs bring in greater diversity in the classrooms and will go a long way in enriching the learning experience.” 

Sharing with MBAuniverse.com about his vision for further improvement at operational and content level in convening CAT 2015, the largest management entrance test, Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhya said “We hope to create a level-playing field for all candidates, no matter what educational background they come from”

Extra weightage to Girl Candidates
With some extra weightage awarded to Girl candidates in the admission process of IIMs, the vision of CAT 2015 convener to improve gender diversity in class rooms of IIMs may become a reality in academic session 2016-17.

In fact when the Girl candidates from Humanities, commerce, Arts, science, medical & paramedical streams get the opportunity to score high in CAT 2015 with more questions related to their study domain, they will sure be able to score high percentile and thereby will have better chances of getting shortlisted for final admission round.

It may be for the first time that innovative changes in the computer based CAT 2015 are brought about to provide equal opportunity of scoring high to the Girl test takers also irrespective of their academic background.

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015 is the mandatory exam for admission to management programmes at IIMs and other top B schools in India. The first computerized CAT was also convened by IIM Ahmedabad in 2009.

Registration to close on Sep 20
Registration process for CAT 2015 is online and is open till September 20, 2015. CAT 2015 exam is scheduled to be held on November 29, 2015 in 2 sessions. So far the exam had 2 sections but CAT 2015 will be divided in 3 sections of Quant, DILR and VRC with a time limit of 60 minutes to attempt each section. Total number of questions will be 100 in CAT 2015.
