IIM Gaya Proposed to have an intake of 60 students after declaration of final result and issuing admission offers to the eligible students, IIM Gaya has not yet been sought after by the full intake capacity in the first batch
It is expected that the mentor IIMC may go for second round of counseling to fill up the remaining 30 seats at IIM Gaya

IIM Gaya in the state of Bihar has started its formal registration process for the maiden PGP 2015-17 batch today on August 24, 2015. Proposed to have an intake of  60 students after declaration of final result and issuing admission offers to the eligible students, IIM Gaya has not yet been sought after by the full intake capacity in the first batch. With the faculty drawn from IIM Calcutta, the mentor IIM,  classes at IIM Gaya would commence after the brief orientation session inaugurating the first batch at the Magadh University campus on Monday August 31, 2015.

Fewer students at IIM Gaya
In a deviation from the admission status at IIM Nagpur and IIM Sirmaur where the PGP batch 2015-17 has begun with full capacity of the students, fewer than 60 students have finalized their admission to IIM Gaya.  The high percentilers of CAT 2014 might be apprehensive of not getting such a high quality of education at IIM Gaya as available at IIM  Calcutta;  getting affected due to late beginning of academic session;  no clarity on high placement opportunities after 2 years and above all CAT 2015 being round the corner with more chances to get into other established IIMs.

Eligibility criteria like older IIMs
A candidate eligible to apply and confirm his/her interest for admission to IIM Gaya needed to have scored 80 percentile in each section and 96.3 percentile overall in CAT 2014. Older and established IIMs have even more relaxed criteria than the ones announced for the first PGP batch 2015-17 of IIM Gaya. It could have also been the reason for fewer candidates confirming their interest to IIM Gaya.

2nd counseling expected at IIM Gaya
So far around half of the intake capacity is going to form the class size at IIM Gaya. It is expected that the mentor IIM C may go for second round of counseling to fill up the remaining 30 seats at IIM Gaya. The CAT 2014 takers who have not gone through PI round earlier and whose scores after PI/WAT are not available with IIM  Gaya, shall have to attend the PI round to be conducted by IIM Calcutta. The interested candidates to IIM Gaya can hope to get the final admission offer from IIM Gaya in case the gap in intake and actual admissions still persists.

Out of 6 new IIMs, IIM Gaya is the 3rd IIM after IIM Nagpur and IIM Sirmaur all set to commence the classes for the first PGP batch 2015-17. After the registration process on August 24, 2015, the formal induction will be over on August 25, 2015.  IIM Gaya proposes to commence its PGP 2015-17 classes on Monday August 31, 2015.

IIM Gaya classes at MU
The classes at IIM Gaya will commence from its temporary campus hired at the Directorate of Distance Education Building in the premises of Magadh University. The site for permanent campus of IIM Gaya as per the decision and agreement arrived at, will also be built up at Magadh University Campus on 119 acres of land lying vacant in the premises. Magadh University has completed all the requisite formalities to transfer the land for construction of IIM Gaya. IIM Calcutta will continue mentoring IIM Gaya for next 3 years or till the permanent campus of IIM  Gaya is constructed.

Government of India during the budget session 2014-15 announced the establishment of 6 new IIMs and out of them one was allocated to the state of Bihar. Earlier these B-schools were known by their respective states. Later on, when the decision was taken to establish the IIM in Gaya, it was renamed as IIM Bodh Gaya since the name of the city is known by Bodh Gaya but known more popularly as  Gaya.

During the mentorship period and while IIM Gaya’s own faculty are recruited, faculty members from IIM Calcutta will be delivering courses at IIM Bihar. This may include a few visiting faculty selected by IIM Calcutta to meet their exacting standards. The overall design, quality and delivery of PGP will be to the standards and with direct involvement of IIM Calcutta.
