Recognising the significance of the crucial role that HR plays, IIM Rohtak recently organised its 7th HR Summit that witnessed the distinguished presence of notable industry stalwarts Mr. Pritpal S. Kular, VP-HR, General Motors India; Mr. Anil Rathore, Group Head HR, Indiabulls and other eminent speakers.

The summit was flagged off with a welcome address by Prof. P Rameshan, Director of IIM Rohtak, in which he remarked on the ever-changing minds of today’s employees and the need for the organisations to manage their needs. He also said “one company’s HR issue is an opportunity for the other companies.” Human Resource Management is the lubricant, which ensures that all employees are working together as a whole and driving the organization forward. Of late, Human Resource Practices have garnered much attention because of their pivotal role in handling ever-increasing attrition rates, and employee stress levels.

At the IIM Rohtak HR Summit, the first panel discussed how employee engagement is imperative for employee retention and performance. An HR professional’s goal is to ascertain that employee’s performance and engagement increases with his tenure.

Mr. Pritpal S. Kular, VP-HR, General Motors India elaborated on their employee policy of “Say, Stay and Strive”. Positive words that they say outside depict how much they value the experience in the company. Mr. Sunil Arora, Managing Director, Abilities India Pistons & Rings touched upon the total employee engagement program in his organisation, through which all employees and managers celebrate birthdays, Family Day, share a common canteen and collectively solve employee issues in the workplace.

The second panel discussion revolved around interrelation between employee performance and potential. The HR personnel need to ensure that an employee’s performance is reflective of his potential. Ms. Sarmistha Roy Chowdhury, DGM-HR, DCW Ltd emphasized on the prudence of gradually evolving one’s skill set to adapt to the needs of the company. Ms. Sonali De Sarkar, Director HR, NetApp talked about the need for a potent Talent Management Strategy for any organization, and the utility of good HR practices in ensuring a successful talent pipeline.

The succeeding sessions delved into the topics of “Social media- Bliss for corporates to attract talent” and “Diversity in organizations: Role of HR” respectively. Mr. Narinder Ahluwalia, COO, Global Pueblo, Ms. Manisha Goel, Lead Specialist - Talent Management, TCG Hamilton, Mr. Rajesh Tripathi, VP & Head - Corporate HR, GHCL Ltd, Mr. Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India Pvt. Ltd, Ms. Niharika Uppal, Director HR, Schneider Electric, Ms. Kanika Vaish, Associate Director HR, Emerson and Mr. Arun Rao, Head HR, CSC shared their views on the topics.

The summit received a very warm reception from the students who listened to the discussion with rapt attention. With intriguing discussions and insightful ideas, the seventh edition of HR summit organized by IIM Rohtak, turned out to be a resounding success. The HR summit is a further step for IIM Rohtak in becoming a global center for learning and knowledge creation.

Indian Institute of Management Rohtak is the 8th IIM setup by Ministry of HRD, Government of India. Currently, it is the only IIM in the National Capital Region of India.
