XIME Bangalore will host the First Indian B-Schools Summit organized by Indian Association of Autonomous Business Schools (IAABS) in collaboration with Karnataka Association of Autonomous Business Schools (KAABS) on October 9 & 10, 2015. In the Summit, Directors of leading PGDM Schools from all over the country will assemble, review the situation and make a request to the Government to protect the interests of PGDM Schools. A number of leading management educationists of the country are also invited.

The theme to be discussed at the Summit by the top academicians including Vice-chancellors, directors from top rated PGDM institutes of India is ‘Heralding a New Era in Management Education in India’. Sub-themes for the principal one at the Summit are ‘Significant contribution of PGDM Schools to Indian Management Education’; ‘Indian B-Schools: Catching up with the best Globally; ‘Autonomy as the Core of the New Order’; ‘Facilitation and not Control to be fundamental to the New Order’ and ‘The Profession’s Submission to the Government to protect the interests of PGDM Schools’

Based on the decision after due interaction in the PGDM system, it was felt that there should be a Conference of B-Schools (particularly PGDM) in Bangalore and hence emerged the thought of organizing the first B-school Summit to discuss some of the key issues on the captioned theme and sub-themes.

The 2 day Summit will see mind storming sessions with Fr. E. Abraham S.J., Director XLRI;  Dr. Bakul Dholakia, Director General -IMI (Former Director – IIM Ahmedabad); Dr. Abad Ahmed, Former Director, FMS, Delhi; Dr. A K Sengupta, Director, SEISCOMS (Former Director, S P Jain Institute of Management; Dr. Bibek Banerjee, Former Director, IMT Ghaziabad; Dr. C.P. The autonomous PGDM Schools (including the IIMs) represent only about ten per cent of the total number of business schools in the country. However, their contribution to the cause of Management Education has been far more than what the numbers speak. India’s position today in the global league of MBA Schools owes mostly to their stellar performance.

Of late, there has been considerable uncertainty and concern among PGDM schools on what might possibly happen after the passing of IIM-MBA Bill. There are a number of other issues too which have been worrying the PGDM system. In this context, many PGDM Schools have been examining the dramatically changing context to decide on the future course of action. These B-schools would also appeal to the Government to have a relook on the regulatory framework.

IAABS is National PGDM Association and was founded on June 16, 2014, registered in Madras with Fr. E. Abraham SJ, Director XLRI as the first President. The main objective of the Association is to establish a network of PGDM/Autonomous Management institutions engaged in education, training and research in India and also to contribute to the development of management education in all aspects. The founding institutions included:

XLRI, MDI, IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI Manipal, XIME Bangalore, Balaji Institute of Modern Management, Pune and PSG Coimbatore.

The Karnataka Association of Autonomous Business Schools (KAABS) was registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 on 5th April 2012 with the main objectives to take every step required for promoting and safeguarding the common interests of the member institutions including facilitating research work collectively to enhance the quality of post graduate management programmes, bring in transparency and quality of governance in the functioning of member institutions, organize national and international level conferences, symposia and brainstorming sessions involving concerned professionals, students and industry associations for the advancement of Post Graduate Management Programmes.
