Sharing the preparation strategy with CAT 2015 aspirants, CAT topper and IIM Bangalore student Sirshendu Sengupta has emphasised on Practice, Accuracy and Commitment as the strategic success mantra to score high in CAT 2015.

Sirshendu Sengupta is pursuing PGP 2015-17 at IIM Bangalore. After doing his graduation, Sirshendu has worked in one of the leading consulting firm and is Certified from IIMC. According to him CAT 2015 taker needs to score 163-164 raw score out of 300 to get 95 percentile.

IIM Bangalore is one of the top 3 IIMs with rigorous admission process. The B schools focuses on your overall profile. A moderate CAT score can be compensated if you have done very good in X, XII and graduation. In view of Sirshendu CAT 2015 taker, if has high score in bachelor’s degree there will be more chances of admission in IIM Bangalore. Also achievements and awards in extra-curricular activities can help in PI round.

Crack the Quant
the strategy to score high in quant according to Sirshendu is to Focus on probability, number system. Along with this CAT 2015 aspirants need to solve various sections of quant separately. The better is to use online sources.

Practice is very important to increase speed in Quant. Besides, one should try to find out the quickest way to solve them. Lot of online material is available on how to approach different type of problems in the simplest way.

How to score high in Verbal & RC (VRC)
Read good English newspapers regularly-comes the suggestion from Sirshendu. He suggests The Hindu and Economic Times. It will be better to download ET app in the phone as it will help. Read as many novels / articles as you can at your leisure to do better on Reading comprehension.

Sharing the quick RC cracking strategy, Sirshendu suggests if you get stuck on RC passage, just read the first and last line of every paragraph as it will give you some idea about what is there in each paragraph. Then try to relate the questions with the correct para.

Non MCQs: Nothing to worry
The most important thing to crack Non-MCQs according to Sirshendu is to improve your overall score. So if you can solve non-MCQ questions at the first attempt solve them, otherwise switch to the next question. Come back to it if you get some time at the end.

Academic Profile: very important
Role of academic profile in shortlisting the candidate is very important especially at IIM Bangalore. Very good Profile along with good work-experience is a boon to get admission opportunity at IIM Bangalore.

Testing room strategy
According to Sirshendu the CAT 2015 test taker should start with his strength. There is no point wasting too much time if you are stuck to some problem.

Practice Mocks from different sources
The CAT topper suggests not to rely only on one type of Mocks or only previous year m ock papers. Since the pattern of CAT goes on changing every year, the best way is to practice as many mocks as you can from different sources.

Accuracy very important
Accuracy is most important in CAT exam so one has to focus on accuracy. Many of the CAT takers despite attempting higher number of questions are not able to score well in comparison to those who attempt fewer questions with accuracy.

Sirshendu advises CAT 2015 aspirants to focus on more practice, higher accuracy level and full commitment level while preparing for the exam.

In his view candidates should not spend more than 3-4 minutes on one question and that too only on a few questions. In case you are not able to solve it better to move ahead. Another important tip he shares is to go for diverse online material as well as some GMAT material. From now onwards not less than 2-3 hours of regular study is required to crack CAT 2015. If you are comfortable with QA then focus a bit more on Verbal,  is the suggestion from Sirshendu.
