69176 girls accounting for 31.63% have registered for CAT 2015 out of total 218664 registrations
Increasing ratio of girl candidates in CAT 2015 registration is significant as Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are trying hard to have greater academic and gender diversity in class rooms

IIMs are jubilant after CAT 2015 registration statistics is out as it shows higher percentage of female candidates registering for CAT 2015. Increasing ratio of girl candidates in CAT 2015 registrations synchronizes with the aim of IIMs to have greater gender diversity in their class rooms.

69176 girls accounting for 31.63% have registered for CAT 2015 out of total 218664 registrations. According to Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhyay CAT 2015 convener and faculty IIM Ahmedabad “69176 girl candidates have registered for CAT 2015”

CAT 2015 registrations were showing a lower rate of growth as the last date to register was drawing near. But with the extension in registration date, candidates registered for CAT 2015 as at the close of registration process on Sept 25, 2015 crossed past 3 year record. The number of girl candidates have also increased from approximate 27% to 31.63% in CAT 2015. Apart from this 80 transgender candidates have also applied and registered for CAT 2015.

The increasing ratio of girl candidates in CAT 2015 registration is significant as Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are trying hard to have greater academic and gender diversity in class rooms. Most of the changes brought about in CAT 2015 also aim to achieve this goal.

To avoid any hardship the girl candidates might face while going to take CAT 2015 at some test centre in remote area, the CAT 2015 convener Prof Tathagata has chalked out the plan to make it possible to allot the Girl candidates test venues near their first preferred city area. This will also help in more girls taking the test and improving the gender diversity in IIM Class rooms.

For the first time, the girl candidates in CAT 2015 will be allotted testing venues in the city areas so that there may be more female candidates who could take the exam.  Sharing his vision Prof Tathagata Bandyopadhya said to MBAUniverse.com “We are also trying to accommodate the female candidates in centres near the city areas as far as possible so that the travel for them could be reduced.”

Accordingly number of CAT 2015 test cities have been increased to 136 from earlier 99 and the testing venues have also been increased to 650 from earlier 354.

While total registration for CAT 2015 has increased by more than 21000 candidates as compared to CAT 2014, it is also a notable fact that this number is the highest in past 3 years. IIM Ahmedabad has taken over as convener of CAT 2015 after 5 years. The first computerized CAT was also convened by IIM Ahmedabad in 2009 in a longer testing window and after 5 years true to the glory of its name, the top B-school of India has again broken the past 3 years record in registration number.

CAT 2015 registration was supposed to be closed on Sep 20 but was extended by another 5 days. The move yielded surprising result fwith more than 1 lakh candidates registering for CAT 2015 during 2 weeks. Number of candidates who had registered for CAT 2015 as on Sep 13 were around 92000 and on Sep 19, 2015,  just before the last date to register for CAT 2015 was announced to Sep 25, the number shot up to 1.60 lakhs and in a week’s time from Sep 19 to Sep 25, 2015, more than 58000 candidates registered for CAT 2015 making the total registrations reach at 218664.

The need to extend CAT 2015 Registration
Registration and application process for CAT 2015 supposed to be closed on September 20, 2015 was extended for another 5 days as thousands of candidates waiting to register for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015, the largest MBA/PGDM entrance test that leads to the admission in top rated IIMs and other B-schools in India, missed the process and the technical glitches that could erupt due to the heavy rush on Sep 20, 2015 could have created another problem.

Due to anticipated technical glitches on last day and to catch-up the mark of higher number of registrations CAT Centre 2015 decided to extend the last day of registration. Thousands of CAT 2015 aspirants have finalized their registrations and have applied during the 5 day extension period that ended on Sep 25, 2015.

The registration process in CAT 2014 also had to be re-opened for one day on Oct 10, 2015 due to technical glitches that came up on the last day of registration.

CAT 2015 will be a single day 2 session exam to be conducted on Nov 29, 2015.To accommodate more than 2.18 lakh CAT 2015 test takers in a single day more testing cities and more testing venues are required. Accordingly CAT Centre 2015 has increased test cities from 99 in CAT 2014 to 136 in CAT 2015 marking an increase of 37 test cities. The test venues have also been doubled from 354 in CAT 2014 to 650 in CAT 2015.

Registration process with choice of 4 preferred test cities
The increase in test cities and test venues also helped the CAT 2015 takers to choose most preferred and most convenient to reach 4 test cities. The addition of 37 more test cities and 300 testing venues will also enable the CAT Centre 2015 to allot the nearest and most preferred test city  to the CAT 2015 aspirants.

It will cut on the travel time substantially, will reduce the overnight staying expenses and will keep the test taker energized, motivated and free from fatigue caused by longer and uncomfortable journeys.

2 years Bachelor’s degree accepted
14 years of study upto graduation degree was accepted for CAT 2015 registration which confirmed no age bar for applicants.

No technical glitches on Last day
Right from 00 hours till mid night on Sep 25, 2015, the last day of CAT 2015 registration after it was extended, candidates did not face any technical problems in the process of registration.

Eventually a record number of 218664 in total comprising 69176 girls and 80 TransG aspirants registered for CAT 2015 as at the close of registration.
