Admission policy of IIM Tiruchirappalli focuses on increasing academic diversity in its class rooms as other top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad had announced. IIM Trichy proposes award of diversified weightage in final selection process to flagship PGP 2016-18 batch. The weightage is more to non-engineers.

The proposed PGP batch 2016-18 size at IIM Trichy is 120 students. The admission process of IIM Trichy will take into consideration the candidate’s performance in CAT 2015, performance in Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT), academic record and relevant work experience. The criteria that would be used at the first stage of shortlisting at IIM Trichy to select candidates for Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test (PI & WAT) would be as under

The actual cut-off percentiles for 2016-18 batch may vary from those mentioned above.

PI & WAT venues
The Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test would be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. The exact date for PI & WAT will be communicated to the short¬listed candidates by IIM Kashipur which is co-ordinating the admission process for 2016-18 batch.

In cases where candidates have been shortlisted by the six new IIMs as well as older IIMs, IIM Kashipur would obtain the PI & WAT scores of such candidates directly from the older IIMs. Such candidates will be informed in advance by IIM-Kashipur, and they need not appear for the PI & WAT conducted by the new IIMs. In addition to the “six new IIMs”, IIMs at Amritsar, Sambalpur and Body Gaya are also likely to join the combined PI & WAT process. In case of additional IIMs joining the process, candidates would be informed by IIM Trichy accordingly.

Final selection post PI
IIM Trichy proposes to use following parameters and corresponding weightages to arrive at the composite score of the candidates, which will be used to prepare the final merit list for admissions.

CAT score: 50 per cent weightage

Written Analysis Test (WAT): 15 per cent weightage. The candidate is expected to have good Vocabulary, content of writing and writing skills

Personal Interview (PI): 15 per cent weightage: The candidate will be assessed for

-- Communication, attitude and personality
-- Academic efforts and disposition
-- Managerial and leadership attributes
-- Social awareness and disposition
-- Overall presence

Work experience (based on quantum of work experience): 5 per cent weightage

Performance at Undergraduate level: 10 per cent weightage
This performance shall be measured by multiplying the percentage marks scored by the weightage applicable to the discipline. 10 per cent of the score so obtained shall be considered in the overall evaluation. [UG performance score = (per cent score at UG * discipline weightage)* 0.10]

Differential weightages shall be applied to different disciplines to account for the degree of difficulty in scoring in different disciplines. According to IIM Trichy ‘for instance, scoring in Engineering disciplines is easier than in Arts’.  Besides the differential weightage is proposed to be applied to encourage diversity in the PGP 2016-18 batch by awarding maximum points to Arts & Commerce.

Engineering / Technology: 0.6; Science: 0.8; Arts / Medicine (including Pharmacy): 0.9; Commerce / Economics / Management: 1.0; Master’s degree or Professional Qualification : 2 per cent weightage. The requirement will be the  pass in the Master Degree/final examinations of CA / ICWA/ CS)

Gender Diversity: 3 per cent weightage for female candidates
