IIFT 2015 MBA (IB) entrance test for admission session 2016-18 on Nov 22, 2015, drew curtains with more surprises and different format combined with different sectional pattern. IIFT 2015 contained 124 questions, 6 more than IIFT 2014 which had 118 questions. Questions were over all not very difficult but few in DI and LR sections were lengthier ones. The test takers found the difficulty level a bit higher also. Data Interpretation which was earlier clubbed to Quant has again been joined to Logical Reasoning with a total of 38 questions divided in 2 parts.

IIFT entrance test was held in a single session of 2 hours across the country in the conventional paper pen mode from 10 AM to 12 Noon. The IIFT 2015 test was divided in 4 sections in a different pattern as appeared in past years. The test greeted the candidates with trickier and lengthier questions on almost all the sections. Candidates found it difficult to cross the hurdle of 50 questions out of 124. The cut off is expected between a score of 40 to 43 in IIFT 2015 out of 100.

Questions in different sections and sub sections in IIFT entrance exam carry different marking pattern. While overall maximum marks are 100, the maximum marks allotted to different questions vary from 0.5 to 1. Sectional cut offs also play an important role and a candidate has to clear them as well.

Penalty of one third marks is awarded for every wrong answer. The candidates therefore had to be careful to avoid this negative marking by choosing the answer options with well calculated thought process
The IIFT 2015 test on Nov 22, 2015 began on right time at 10 AM and got over without any technical issues.  The 120 minutes test was found to contain moderate to difficult questions. Most of the candidates couldn’t solve more than 50% of the questions.

GK the first section
General Awareness was the first section in IIFT 2015 test. The section greeted the aspirants with 28 questions as against 26 questions in 2014. The questions were based on current affairs, who’s who, conventional GK, business, economis among others. Each correct answer carried the weightage of 0.5 mark. Those who kept themselves aware about the surroundings could attempt them quickly.

Candidates had the opportunity to add 14%  marks if they cracked this section which didn’t need any formula based study.

Quant Stand alone section with 22 questions
The second section in IIFT 2015 exam on Quant had 22 questions without any support from DI question sets. In 2014 there were 20 questions on Quant and 15 questions on DI problem sets. Now candidates will have to score high on Quant questions only. All the questions in Quant  carried 1 mark each making it the highest scoring part. Few questions on Quant were tricky and were based on varying topics of Geometry, Algebra, Arithmetic, Modern Math.

Candidates can expect to clear cut off,  if 12-14 questions are correctly answered in this section.

Data Interpretation clubbed to Logical Reasoning
The 3rd section in IIFT 2015 had 38 questions carrying varying marks and was divided in 2 parts. The first part had 20 questions on Logical Reasoning. The questions were in sets as well as individual ones. Every correct answer on LR question carried a weightage of 0.75 mark with total 15% marks. There were long problem sets and short question sets based on syllogisms, Input-output analysis. Problem sets were tricky and took more time to solve them.

In 2014 LR section stood alone without DI problem sets. But now IIFT 2015 has again clubbed the 16 questions on Data Interpretation questions to Logical Reasoning and made DI as the part-2 of 3rd section. DI question sets were based on Data Table, Tabular based data, bar diagrams, asking for comparisons and analysis. The questions were a bit tricky and lengthy as well.

Candidates found it difficult to solve 6-8 questions due to shortage of time. Each questions carried a weightage of 1 mark and the total marks assigned to DI part were 16% of the total marks in IIFT exam.

Verbal Ability & RC: 36 questions
The 4th section on English Comprehension was divided in 2 parts. The first part had 4 quite lengthy Reading Comprehension passages followed by 16 questions. RC part in Verbal Ability section carried 1 mark for every correct answer. The 2nd part in English Comprehension section had 20 questions on Verbal ability carrying 0.75 mark for every correct answer.

Each RC passage in IIFT 2015 had a length of about two pages. 20 questions on Verbal ability carrying 0.75 mark each were based on Fill in the blanks, explaining idioms and phrases, spelling correction, correction in paragraph sentences, Analogy, usage, Odd man out in vocabulary based questions, Formation of words, parajumbles.

A good attempt of 15-20 questions in this section could fetch a good score to clear the cut off in this section.

Anticipated cut off
Over all attempt with accuracy of 46-50 questions with more from Quant, DI and RC part in different sections can make you clear the cut off  However since sectional cut off also applies in IIFT exam, candidates have to clear that one also in the same ratio of 45-50 percent.
