Out of 34 questions in VARC section of CAT 2015, 3 questions in non-MCQ form are expected to be on summarizing the short paragraph. Answers to Para summary questions could be similar to main idea or central idea of the paragraph. Although you are not supposed to complete the paragraph there will be the need to understand what is said in the paragraph so that you could arrive at the correct answer option summarizing the paragraph.

How to get the best Para summary option
Para summary questions in CAT 2015 are not expected to be of high difficulty level. In order to get to the right summary option, read the paragraph twice as carefully as possible and understand every sentence. Once you understand the central theme of the passage, it would be easy for you to find out what is the theme and what is important.

However, if you follow simple tips you could arrive at the correct option

-- The option you are looking for should be covering all the major ideas in the paragraph coherently
-- The chosen option must not have objective outline of the entire paragraph
-- The para summary option should address basic questions on Paragraph like Who, what, where, when.
-- It should cover the main idea of the paragraph, main supporting points.
-- The summary option should not have selected examples, details, or information which are not relevant to the paragraph
-- Para summary may have key words from the paragraph but not the whole phrases or sentences

Direction: The passage given below is followed by four alternative summaries. Choose the option that best captures the essence of the passage. Key in the number of the option you choose as your answer.
