Candidate scoring 51.75 marks out of maximum 78 marks coming to 66.35% marks in XAT 2016, has knocked near 100 percentile
As per the different percentile calculation method in XAT 2016 no candidate has scored 100 percentile

After declaring the XAT 2016 result 5 days ahead of the scheduled date, XLRI has made public the highest scored marks that fetched 100 percentile in XAT 2016. The candidate scoring 51.75 marks out of maximum 78 marks coming to 66.35% marks, has knocked near 100 percentile and would figure in the shortlist of all the top rated B-schools like XLRI, SPJIMR, IMT, XIMB among others.

XAT 2016: Not to award full 100 percentile
XAT 2016 has not awarded 100 percentile even to the highest scorer of 51.75 marks. The score has been ranked at 99.9+ percentile. As per the different percentile calculation method in XAT 2016 no candidate has scored 100 percentile.  According to XAT official, “Our percentile calculation is slightly different and the topper does not score hundred percentile.”

There was only one that too a girl candidate who scored highest score in XAT last year. Neha Manglik of Mayur Vihar New Delhi scored highest percentile in XAT 2015. The number of  toppers scoring highest scores and same percentile in XAT 2014 were 4.

No Negative percentile
XAT in fact doesn’t award negative percentile. According to XAT official “All students got positive percentiles (There is no possibility of negative percentile)”.  It means that no candidate can get negative scores as per the score normalization process adopted in XAT 2016.

Result 5 days ahead of schedule
XAT 2016 result was proposed to be declared on January 31, 2016 but XLRI has declared it on January 26, 2016 in the evening hours after removing the downloading facility of the individual OMR answer sheet from its website and announcing that it was the last day to view and download the OMR sheet.

Scoring pattern applied in XAT 2016
XAT 2016 was divided in 2 parts and was to be attempted in 210 minutes. The first part with 3 sections in XAT 2016 had 78 questions and had to be attempted in 170 minutes. All the questions were in Multiple Choice form (MCQs). The 3 sections in XAT 2016 were further divided in section-1 on Verbal Ability and Logical Ability with 26 questions; section-2 on Decision Making with 23 questions and section-3 on Quantitative Ability and data interpretation with 29 questions.

Answers to these 78 questions have been taken into account to calculate the sectional as well as the overall percentile score.  The correct answer to each of these 78 questions carried a score of one mark and wrong answer attracted the penalty of 1/4 negative mark.

Another significant change in XAT 2016 scoring pattern has been that a penalty of 0.05 mark per question was applied, in case the test taker left more than 13 questions unattempted.   This has also turned the table in favour of the test takers who kept in mind this fact.

XAT 2016 remained most transparent
To avoid any chance of grumbling by the test takers, XLRI has taken care to keep XAT 2016 as the most transparent exam. Not only the answer sheets of all the question sets were made available to the test takers but also each of the test takers was allowed to download the individual OMR answer sheet for XAT 2016 exam. The answer sheet contained all the correct and incorrect answers which enabled the candidates to assess their performance and expected score in XAT 2016 by calculating the scores as per the pre-announced scoring formula.

High percentile at low scores
A score between 22 to 35 marks in XAT 2016 has led to the percentile range between 70 to 90 paving the way for the test takers to search for the good MBA/PGDM programmes beginning 2016.

There are 148 B-schools who will be accepting XAT 2016 scores. More than 50000 candidates are proposed to get admission in these B-schools with their XAT 2016 scores. XAT 2016 scores have provided good opportunity to the candidates who have not been able to score very good scores in CAT 2015 and are in search for a good B-school.

XAT 2016, held on January 3, 2016 did not offer much easier test as promised by XLRI even after bringing out significant changes. 78 questions in Part – I of  XAT 2016 were divided in 3 sections of Verbal Ability with 26 questions, Decision Making with 23 questions and Quant with 29 questions. The first section of Verbal and Logical Ability had high difficulty level although questions in Decision Making and Quant sections were a bit easier. The Part-2 of the exam comprising GK and Essay Writing had to be attempted in 35 minutes. 148 B-schools would accept XAT 2016 scores for admission to their PGDM 2016-18 batch.
