Not less than 2100 candidates are proposed to be shortlisted for PI round by Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi for admission to MBA 2016-18 batch having an intake of 215 students. CAT 2015 scores will be the sole shortlisting criterion. Those who have applied for MBA 2016-18 at FMS Delhi and have scored good sectional as well as overall percentile may expect to be shortlisted by the top rated B-school.

10:1 candidates in each category to be shortlisted
According to Dr M L Singla Dean FMS Delhi, “For this year, FMS has decided to call candidates in the ratio of 10:1, i.e 10 Candidates for every seat in each category, as per the merit in the computed scores.”  FMS Delhi offers final admission to around 216 students. The category wise break up is as follows

Going by the decision the shortlist would contain minimum 1010 candidates in General category; 540 in OBC category; 300 in SC Category; 150 in ST category; 60 in PH category and 100 in CW category. Another fact is that, in case more than one students with same percentile and weightage are there, all of them will be shortlisted for PI round. It will then depend on them how they perform over their peers to grab admission in FMS Delhi.

Different criteria in 2016
In a deviation from earlier process in shortlisting for MBA admission after declaration of CAT 2015 result FMS Delhi is going to adopt a different shortlisting criteria for the PI round of MBA 2016-18 batch than the one it used to follow till MBA admission 2015.

FMS is going to declare for the first time the shortlist of candidates based on varying weightage to sectional scores in CAT 2015 with a vision to improve academic and gender diversity in FMS class rooms.

According to Dr M L Singla Dean FMS Delhi “To encourage diversity of Gender and Academic Disciplines, for the purpose of shortlisting candidates for Interview Process different weightages shall be assigned to the scores of different sections of the CAT 2015. A composite score shall be computed giving weightages of 30%, 30%, and 40% to the scores of QA, DI/LR and VRC sections respectively as provided by the CAT Centre for the CAT 2015 Examination for candidates who apply to FMS. This composite score so computed shall be used only for shortlisting the candidates for Interview Process.”

Till MBA admission 2015 FMS used to shortlist the candidates for the PI round on the basis of overall CAT percentile.

40% weight to VRC section; 30% each to other 2
CAT 2015 will have 3 sections as against earlier 2. The first section will consist of questions on Quantitative Ability (Quant); second on Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and the third on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VRC).

Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) University of Delhi will award highest weightage of 40% to Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VRC) section in its shortlisting criteria for MBA 2016-18 batch while the other 2 sections on Quant and DILR will have equal weightage of 30%.

No minimum sectional percentile now
FMS Delhi has not prescribed any minimum CAT 2015 sectional scores to qualify for shortlisting. As against this, IIMs have prescribed minimum sectional percentile score in CAT 2015 in a range of 80 to 85 on the basis of which a candidate will qualify to be shortlisted for PI round.

However, going by the past trend candidates should be aware that 98+ percentile in CAT 2015 overall is required to be shortlisted at FMS in MBA admission process 2016. The catch is that if you score high in VRC section, you will be awarded higher weightage in comparison to your peers as the weightage to other sections is lower by 10%.

FMS has an intake of 200 to 220 students in its flagship 2 years full time MBA programme affiliated to Delhi University.

Shortlisting Criteria much like of IIMs
You need high sectional scores apart from high overall scores in CAT 2015 to get shortlisted for PI round at FMS. Although no minimum sectional percentile has been announced for shortlisting you will still need a sectional percentile as high as 93 to 95 minimum to get shortlisted at the dream B-school.

Earlier, candidates with high overall percentile but low sectional percentile in CAT were not shortlisted by IIMs but used to find their names in FMS shortlist.  Similarly, the candidates with high balanced sectional percentile but low overall CAT percentile of 92-96 could find a place in the shortlist of candidates at an IIM but did not find the place in FMS shortlist.

The situation has changed now and the candidates with high sectional percentile in CAT 2015 may find their names among the 2000+ shortlisted candidates for MBA 2016-18 at FMS Delhi.

The shortlist at FMS for all the categories is expected to be declared in the month of February 2016. FMS Delhi is a high ROI B school with a low fee structure and high placement packages. The annual tuition fee payable to Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi is approximately Rs. 10,000/- for MBA (FT) programme while the average placement at FMS Delhi stood at Rs.17.04 lakhs in 2015.

FMS Delhi is one the oldest and top ranked B-school in India started in 1954 in University of Delhi. FMS Delhi accepts only CAT scores for MBA admission.
