Candidates who had applied to IIM Nagpur at the time of CAT 2015 registration and also meet the cut offs, would be receiving an email from IIM Nagpur by 15th April, 2016

Mentored by the top rated IIM Ahmedabad, the IIM Nagpur has reduced the required CAT 2015 percentile from 96.3 to 90 for admission to flagship PGP 2016-18 batch. Besides, IIM Nagpur proposes to finalize its selection process without GD-PI round but academic performance and work experience will be awarded due weightage by the B-school before generating final admission offer to 60 candidates. IIM Nagpur is not going to increase its intake for the second batch beginning 2016 and would allow admissions in the PGP 2016-18 batch to 60 students only.

Announcing the admission policy and procedure for PGP 2016-18, IIM Nagpur has clarified that it proposes to ask the candidates who opted for IIM Nagpur while registering and applying for CAT 2015 and have scored required percentile in the exam to express and confirm their interest in IIM Nagpur by April 15, 2016. According to IIM Nagpur ‘The candidates who had applied to "IIM Nagpur" at the time of CAT-2015 registration and also meet the cut-offs, would be receiving an email from IIM Nagpur by 15th April, 2016. These candidates will be provided a link to a page where they MUST express and reconfirm their desire to pursue their candidature further for the admission to PGP in management at "IIM Nagpur" by a stipulated date’.

CAT 2015 score: Sole shortlisting criteria
IIM Nagpur has shared ‘The following cut-offs shown in Table 1 will be used for selecting eligible candidates for all subsequent stages. Therefore, the CAT-2015 score is the single criterion used as the basis for arriving at the first short-list’

Intake remains at 60
IIM Nagpur does not propose to increase the intake from 60 students even for its second PGP batch although it was decided in the Union Cabinet Meeting held on June 24, 2015 that the new IIMs should have an intake of 140 students each. It appears that the intake has been kept at the last year’s level due to the fact that not even 60 students preferred to go for IIM Nagpur in its maiden batch. The current strength of the first batch at IIM Nagpur is 55 students, 5 short of the intake.

Good opportunity to get IIM
Those who have not been shortlisted by IIMs but are keen to pursue their MBA/PGP 2016-18 from an IIM, it could be a good opportunity for them since the required CAT 2015 percentile by IIM Nagpur is not very high and it is very much possible that the applicants may get admission in IIM Nagpur even at a lower score.

According to IIM Nagpur ‘IIM Nagpur reserves the right to change the shortlisting and selection criteria that it deems necessary to suit its purpose’

Final selection without GD-PI
IIM Nagpur while specifying the final selection process shares ‘The batch size will be 60 students. The admission process at IIM Nagpur takes into account the candidate's Past Academic Performance (PAP), Work Experience (WE), and performance in CAT’.

50% weightage to CAT 2015 score
After the first stage shortlisting, IIM Nagpur while finalizing the merit list will award 50% weightage to CAT 2015 scores.

PAP:30% weightage
30% weightage will be awarded to the past academic performance (PAP). The applicants who have obtained above 90% marks in class X and XII and above 70% in bachelor’s degree examination will be awarded full weightage of 10 points for each academic standard.

After arriving at the total PAP scores, IIM Nagpur will adopt the following formula to finalize the rating score for academics –PAP = (0.25*A+0.35*B+0.40*C)/10 Where, Rating score: A=class X; B=class 12; C=bachelor’s degree

Work Experience (WE)
20% weightage will be awarded for the work experience of completed months x (at the time of CAT 2015 registration). The candidates will be assigned a WE score using the following formula:
WE = 0 for x < 6; WE = 0 for x > 60; WE = x/30 for 6 <= x <= 30; WE = 1 - ((x-30)/30) for 30 < x <= 60

Final Score
The final score FS of a candidate, who meet the CAT-2015 cut-offs and who expresses and reconfirms his/her desire to pursue the candidature further by the stipulated date, will be computed using the following rule:

FS=0.50* (CAT 2015 total score/Maximum CAT 2015 total score)+0.30* (PAP score)+0.20* (WE score). This will be the Maximum CAT Total Score amongst those who confirm their interest in PGP at IIM Nagpur

IIM Nagpur is the second IIM after IIM Sirmaur that proposes to finalize its admission process without GD-PI. Even if the GD-PI-WAT is conducted, say along with CAP 2016 being coordinated by IIM Kashipur, its score may not adversely affect the admission chances in IIM Nagpur as the admission policy and selection criteria do not assign any weightage to personal interview.
