Experts are of the view and to some extent forewarn the candidates in dilemma that either they should decode and take early MBA admission decision based on strong core parameters else they will miss the bus
There are number of B schools who have better corporate interface than many IIMs and over the years have built up a reputation of offering good return on investment

It is not necessary that all the high percentilers in CAT 2015 are supposed to be shortlisted by all the 19 IIMs nor all of these IIMs, except a few highly ranked ones, can be rated as good as many other non-IIMs and private B-schools who are rated much above than number of IIMs. Similarly many high percentilers in XAT 2016 have not been shortlisted by XLRI and XIMB and on the same ground even the top rank holders in CMAT 2016 and MAT 2015 & 2016 still remain undecided which B-school to choose now.

Experts’ view
Experts are of the view and to some extent forewarn those candidates who are still confused and are in wait & watch mode before taking any decision how they should choose the B-school according to their percentile out of the available options that either they should take decision based on strong core parameters else they will miss the bus and neither the IIMs nor the other B-schools will offer admission to them, if the decision is not taken in time.

Shortlist: No surety of admission
Please remember shortlisting is not the final admission offer. Almost all the good B-schools including IIMs, FMS, NITIE, IMI, IMT, MDI shortlist more than 10 times of their respective intake but out of 100000 shortlisted candidates only 10 to 20 thousands are offered admission in the flagship MBA/PGDM programmes.

Many IIMs not as good as other B-schools
Since many private B-schools appear better at the same parameters as compared to many IIMs, you should also include them among your list of preferred B-schools. Even if you are sure of getting admission offers from more B-schools, you have to keep your order of preference ready so as not to delay the decision in favour of the best choice on selected parameters. The 3 core weighing parameters affecting your decision are shared below.

The legacy
The older the Institute the richer and versatile will be the learning experience apart from large alumni base that always helps in your career growth. For example new IIMs established a few years ago cannot match the legacy and alumni base of IIM A,B,C and L.

Legacy creates the brand and enhances the reputation of the B-school which remains instrumental to get the best job in the market. Similarly among the non-IIMs and private B-schools going by the year of establishment FMS Delhi holds the top position as it inherits history since 1954, followed by MDI Gurgaon established in 1973; IMT Ghaziabad, established in 1980; IMI Delhi established in 1982 and SPJIMR also established in 1981. Accordingly, these institutes have produced great Managers and skilled professionals who stand 2nd to none in the field of Management.

Students from number of batches passed out of these institutes occupy high places in the corporate and industrial sectors. The positive competition in achieving yet more heights of excellence in management education goes on among these institutes.

Faculty student ratio: Base for your learning
Core faculty at the B school decides the learning experience in imparting the education at the institute and is the main factor in providing adequate mentorship to the students.  The better is the teacher student ratio, the better will be the mentorship at the institute.

A teacher-student ratio of 10 students mentored by 1 teacher could be considered as good one. If there are fewer good faculty members and the ratio does not remain good enough, it may affect adversely the learning experience at the B-school. There are many IIMs and other good B-schools who have low intake and well experienced faculty members in sufficient number but there are B schools also who have high intake and fewer faculty members due to which students don’t get very good learning experience.

High ROI: Most important
In fact MBA aspirants move one step forward and take 2 steps back whether they should invest lakhs of Rupees to study MBA where ROI may not be so good. There are number of B schools who have better corporate interface than many IIMs and over the years have built up a reputation of offering good return on investment. The placement data is also available on their site. You may check before taking admission decision to the preferred B school.

Many non-IIMs like FMS Delhi, JBIMS Mumbai charge much lower fee than IIMs but offer high placement packages by top recruiters even before the completion of the course. The Return on Investment in MBA education at FMS is so high that you complete the entire course with less then Rs.25000/- tuition fee and the total expenses including lodging & boarding do not go beyond Rs.1 lakh but the average placement 2016 at FMS is as high as Rs. 20.5 lakhs meaning the entire expenses on MBA education are recovered in less than a month’s time. JBIMS also offers high ROI and with expenses of Rs.2 lakhs for MMS course, the B-school has achieved average placement 2016 at Rs. 18.3 lakhs making JBIMS as high ROI B-school.

While older IIMs also offer high ROI but their fee structure is equally high. However students recover all that they have spent on their MBA/PGDM education in a year or so. Other highly ranked B-schools like MDI, IMI, IMT, SPJIMR, NITIE are also in the category of high ROI B-schools although they also charge a good amount of fee for their PGDM courses. However, there is no doubt that the brand MDI, IMT, IMI, NITIE, BIMTECH will be available to you when you pursue your MBA from these B schools. The pride of being an MDI graduate or IMT graduate will be with you throughout your life.
