MAH CET 2016: Curtains drawn with tricky Quant and Reasoning; know the top B school cut offs

After inclusion of JBIMS in the CAP round for admission to MMS 2016-18 batch, interest of the candidates registered for MAH CET 2016 has gone up. However, State CET Cell that conducted MAH CET 2016 also tapped the opportunity by placing twisted and tricky questions in the last session of exam held from 2PM to 5.30PM on March 13, 2016.

Curtains for MAH CET 2016 were drawn on March 13, 2016 after State CET Cell concluded the afternoon exam session for the 2nd consecutive day. The exam contained 200 MCQs carrying maximum total score of 200 without any penalty of negative marking for wrong answer. Overall exam was considered moderate although Quant and Reasoning in the last session were reported tricky and lengthy by number of test takers.

No Surprise but tricky & lengthy exam
There was no surprise element on the final day of MAH CET 2016. Quant and Reasoning were was found bit more tricky. Verbal Ability test was found to be on easier side with a mix of questions. Still the exam could be rated as a bit more tough than last year MAH CET. Students should however not expect much slide down in merit position as they would need higher scores of around 153 to get into JBIMS.

There were few difficult and time consuming questions. Test of Logical and Abstract reasoning was bit more time consuming.

The aspirants who appeared on the final day of MAH CET 2016 on March 13 tried to give their best shot in the exam as the test was slightly more on difficult side. Since MAH CET 2016 has no negative marking candidates also used the guess work well to mark the probable answers and are hopeful that they hit at least 50% of them correct.

Quantitative Aptitude
Rated more difficult than on March 12, Quant test on March 13 had more tricky and lengthy questions. Prominent topics on which questions were based were percentage, ratio and proportion. Number of candidates could not crack more than 20 questions correct initially and resorted to guess work.

The questions were tricky and time consuming. Many questions called for quick tricks and formula application and aspirants with conceptual clarity and good practice were able to solve these questions. There were more questions on Arithmetic and Algebra. A few questions from Geometry also made their appearance in the test.  Most of the questions were more calculation based and time consuming.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
The final day of MAH CET 2016 exam had moderate questions in Verbal Ability section. Candidates could crack more than 40 out 50 without much difficulty.

10 questions followed the RC passages. There were 10 questions on error corrections in sentences. The Sentences were divided in 4 sections and the error from one of the sections had to be spotted. If there was no error option 5 had to be marked as answer.

6 questions on rewriting the parts of sentences with error in them appeared in the exam. 6 questions on vocabulary usage also made their presence in the exam. Rest of the questions included parajumbles, Fill in the blanks among others.

The level of difficulty was moderate and the questions were doable. Candidates could solve 35-40 questions correct in this section without much difficulty. Accordingly, merit position will go high and with a score of more than 40 marks in this section you could expect to stand in the high merit list for top B-schools.

Logical and Abstract Reasoning
75 questions on Logical Reasoning were not easy. While the individual questions were a little on moderate side, the questions in sets were found tricky and lengthy. It took candidates for a ride and many of them despite their best efforts could not go beyond 40 correct, although they attempted all the 75.

The questions in sets followed the given data; information and candidates had tough time to crack the questions in sets.

Abstract Reasoning with 25 questions was considered a little easier. There were questions on series, anomalies, analogies, formation of words in a coded language among others. Out of 25 questions candidates could crack 18 or more correct.

Expected cut offs
It is expected that admission to JBIMS could be finalised at a score of 153 in MAH CET 2016, in SIMSREE at 142 and K J Somaiya at 134. Between 115 to 130 admission to other top rated B-schools like DSIMS, PUMBA, IESMCRC, N L Dalmiya, FLAME can be explored.
