'Shoulder Nation building responsibility without compromising principles' says HRD Minister at IIM Shillong Convocation

IIM Shillong celebrated its 7th Convocation on March 29, 2016 at its campus for PGP 2014-16 and PGPEX 2015-16 batch

Inspiring and motivating the passing out graduates of 2014-16 PGP batch and 2015-16 PGPEX batch of IIM Shillong at its 7th Convocation, Smt Smriti Irani, Minister of HRD, Government of India urged ‘to take up and shoulder the responsibility of Nation Building without compromising the principles you have learnt and strengthened further at the institute’.

Delivering the Convocation address as the Chief Guest on March 29, 2016 at Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, Smt Irani asked the students to always remember their roots in whatever they do and wherever they go. She also congratulated and appreciated the parents of the students studying at IIM Shillong that despite going through various odds they managed to send their wards to IIM Shillong and are bearing all the expenses. Their sacrifice needed to be appreciated and the students should be grateful to them throughout their life.  She also asked the graduates to remain connected to their institute that added value to their life and career.

The Union Human Resource Development Minister inspired the IIM Shillong graduates to utilize the knowledge and wisdom they have earned at their institute to become constructive human beings and help to create a livable planet as the late President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam aspired for.

Appreciating the quality of education at IIM Shillong and its high acceptability by the corporate sector, Falguni Rajkumar, Chairman Board of Governors, IIM Shillong said  “our records reveal that our students are among the best, the country has and much sought after by the best companies and organisations from across the world. In the process, they have not only brought laurels to themselves and the institution but also to the country. This, we believe is proof and testimony of our capability to do what the rest of the country can do - equally well, and in many respects even better. And in all these, credit goes to the Director, the faculty and other staff members who in spite of enormous challenges, have done a marvelous job in making this happen. I wish to compliment them in your presence. Nothing is going to hold them back from achieving higher goals.”

Inspiring the IIM Shillong graduates for their promising future, Prof De further said “Remember the challenges and demands on you will be enormous in the road ahead. But what should make you overcome all these and make you stand out among the crowd, is your steadfast determination to reach your goals by doing the right things right, sincerely and honestly. We believe this approach will give you a distinctive ‘unique mix value’, which will not only make you the best, but also the best among the best. As you leave your Alma Mater today, we wish each one of you from all of us in the IIMS family, the very best in life for a very successful career ahead. God bless and Godspeed.”

On the occasion Prof Amitabha De, Director IIM Shillong congratulated the graduating students of the Post Graduate (PGP) 2014-16 and Post Graduate Post Executives (PGPEx) 2014-15 batch. Prof De delivered the welcome address and said that IIM, Shillong has provided the students holistic learning and sustainable development. Advising the students while they embark on their career path, Prof De added “Please do not forget the values that we have always strived to inculcate in you, right from the day you have joined the Institute. Your career for which you have been working so hard can flourish and sustain in a meaningful way, only when you strengthen the values of compassion, integrity, honesty, humility and respect for others.”

Prof De also spoke in detail about the achievements, activities and USPs of IIM Shillong. Union Minister of HRD conferred awards and honours to the passing out graduates of IIM Shillong on the occasion.  
Established in 2007, IIM Shillong (Meghalaya) is the 7th in the family of 19 IIMs and is the only IIM operating and catering to 7 sister states of North East in India. Named as Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, IIM Shillong has acquired the prominent place in the Indian Management education. The placement 2016 at IIM Shillong has concluded with the highest domestic pay package of Rs. 23.35 lakhs and average salary of Rs.14 lakhs.
