IIM Ahmedabad is no more the best B-school in India according to the National institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2016 released by Ministry of HRD, Government of India for top 50 B-schools in India on April 4, 2016. As per the report, IIM Bangalore scoring 93.04 out of 100 is ranked at number 1 while IIM Ahmedabad is the runner up after scoring 89.91.
International Management Institute, Delhi has been ranked 7th after scoring 81.77 and enjoys a higher ranking position than many of the IIMs. Surprisingly, FMS Delhi, IIFT Delhi and many other top B-schools have not found any place among the top 50 B-schools in the Government of India NIRF Rankings 2016.
Claiming that the Ranking Frameworks are similar, the exact methodologies adopted by MHRD are domain specific. Ranking methods have been worked out for 6 categories of institutions namely Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, Universities and Colleges.
In view of the Ministry of HRD these 50 B-schools are of A category as the NIRF Rankings 2016 have not placed the B category institutes. According to Ministry of HRD “Unfortunately, data from the Category B institutions in all domains continued to exhibit major inconsistencies despite our best efforts to remove them. It was decided, therefore, that no rankings be announced for Category B institutions this year.”
Anticipating some disappointment due to the release of ranking, MHRD further says “We thank all those who participated enthusiastically in this effort and regret the disappointment it may cause to many institutions.”
