In case candidates do not deposit the first installment of fee by the due date, their candidature may be cancelled and the students in waiting list would be given the chance of admission.

The situation becomes pressurizing when you are selected by more than 1 highly ranked B-schools and the difficulty is faced in choosing the right MBA/PGDM programme. It’s therefore high time to give a thought which one to choose out of the above 4 top B schools.

Tough Decision making
The decision making is tough and need intense research if we have to decide on one among the top B schools, however to help you choose the right B-school be guided by 6 parameters recommended by the experts

-- Legacy

-- Intake

-- Fee structure

-- Faculty

-- Average placement

-- Top Recruiters

Legacy: Old is gold
NITIE, Mumbai the oldest among above four, was established in 1963 and has consistently been performing well with a good Alumni base. However, the B school is more sought after by core engineering graduates as the focus is more on Engineering and technical areas.

MDI, Gurgaon, established in 1973 is a private management institute which has become a synonym of consistent growth.  The B school has grown to be one of the most sought after management college in India alongwith IIMs. Its large alumni base is spread all over the world and more and more candidate are turning towards entrepreneurship after completing the PGDM programme.

IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode both were established in the year 1996.  The brand IIM has its own taste and therefore, despite being slightly new candidates who are offered admission to other institutes usually like to wait for the final admission offers by these institutes.

The Intake
Number of seats in flagship PGDIM  and PGDISEM programmes at NITIE Mumbai are 340. Both the programmes are 2 years residential and are the most sought after ones. Despite so many seats it is difficult to find the admission in this institute and sometimes even 99 CAT percentilers do not get admission to this B school.

MDI Gurgaon having an intake of 345 aspirants is a hot and much sought after destination for management aspirants. It is a versatile institute and sometimes is preferred to a few of IIMs.  The admission seekers with 98+ CAT percentile are sometimes disappointed for not being able to secure admission in this B school.

IIM Kozhikode has an intake of 375 seats in its 2 years’ residential PGP programme. With a consistent increase in seats the flagship programme at IIM K is a preferred one.

IIM Indore is a hot destination IIM after IIM A, B, C. It has maximum intake among all the above four B schools with 510 candidates across the PGPM programmes. Candidates, if admitted in this B school do not prefer going to any other B school.

Fee structure
This is the most important area now to be considered before proceeding to secure admission in any of the above 4 B schools. The factor becomes all the more important as you have to take the decision in a few days’ time else the gates of these B-schools may get closed and your candidature may be at risk.

NITIE has probably the lowest fee structure among all the above 4 B schools. They are asking a fee of Rs. 4.19 lakhs to be deposited by means of single demand draft. The total fee may be slightly more but not much more. If you are an engineer and wish to go to NITIE, the advisory is not to wait too long and proceed with your admission plans.

MDI has announced its fee for 2016-18 as Rs. 17.15 lakhs. This B school will accept fee in instalments.

Fee structure at IIM Kozhikode and IIM Indore does not give any reprieve to this expensive management programme. While you will have to shell out Rs. 13 lakhs for IIM Indore, the hole in your pocket will be bigger with Rs. 16 lakhs for IIM Kozhikode.

Learning Experience depends upon Faculty
Core faculty at the B school decides the learning experience in imparting the education at the institute and is the main factor in providing adequate mentorship to the students.  The better is the teacher student ratio, the better will be the mentorship at the institute.

MDI Gurgaon has 83 faculty members for 345 students in all the courses while the number is 59 at NITIE, Mumbai for 340 students.

IIM Kozhikode is equipped with 61 core faculty for 375 students followed by 87 faculty members apart from visiting faculties at IIM Indore for 510 students.

Since all the above 4 B schools accept CAT scores and the range of percentile cut off lies somewhere between 90-94 depending upon the academic record, work experience, gender diversity and performance in GDPI round, except the fact that NITIE is an engineering based b school, candidates may expect their names appear in the final admission lists of all the above institutes. Sometimes candidates with high percentile of 99 do not qualify the final admission round whereas candidates with low percentile of 93-94 performing well are able to convert the call in these top rated B schools due to the above cited factors.

ROI: Average salary
This part has more significance as the Return on Investment should be calculated before taking the admission especially in this period of growing economy.  Although it is difficult to decide what package you would get after 2 years, you can very well check the past campus placement trends.  If the trends are encouraging and average package goes on rising, it could be your dream institute. Your money as well as precious 2 years of life is going to be spent in the B school, so decide judiciously.

MDI Gurgaon had an average placement of Rs. 18.95 in 2016 showing an increase from Rs. 16.86 lakhs in 2015. The highest offered package was Rs. 32.10 lakhs in 2016 again showing an increase from Rs.25.18 lakhs in 2015.

NITIE, Mumbai has reported Rs.37 lakhs as highest domestic placement package and Rs. 15.82 lakhs as average salary in placement 2016 showing a rising trend.

IIM Kozhikode recorded the highest placement package in 2016 at Rs.37 lakhs and average salary at Rs. 17.1 lakhs. Major areas of placement were markeing and sales and Finance.

IIM Indore was also successful in beating the recessionary trends. The placement 2016 saw the highest package at Rs. 32 lakhs and average placement at Rs.15.67 lakhs which is 10% higher than last year.
