Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu in the state of Jammu & Kashmir has announced the beginning of its admission process for the 1st PGP 2016-18 batch under the mentorship of IIM Lucknow. Sharing with MBAUniverse.com about the launch of application process, IIML has informed ‘IIM Jammu invites application from eligible candidates for admission into the full time 2 year program. Candidates having valid CAT 2015 scores and meeting the eligibility criterion as defined in the admissions policy may apply for admission.’
IIM Jammu joins the IIM family as the 20th IIM of the country. The preparatory classes for PGP 2016-18 of IIM Jammu are proposed to begin from August 1, 2016 at Noida campus of IIM Lucknow. Sharing with MBAUniverse.com, IIM Lucknow stated “Preparatory Classes will start on 1st August at the IIM-L NOIDA Campus, and formally be inaugurated at Jammu on the 5th September 2016.” Apart from mentoring IIM Jammu, the highly ranked IIM Lucknow has already been awarded the responsibility to mentor 3 other IIMs namely IIM Rohtak, IIM Kashipur and IIM Sirmaur.
Eligibility & Application process
Candidates with valid CAT 2015 scores and meeting the eligibility criterion as defined in the admissions policy need to confirm Interest for admission to IIM Jammu. Expressing Interest in IIM Jammu has been considered necessary as in CAT-2015 there was no column to register and apply for IIM Jammu. Accordingly, when candidates applied, they had not expressed their interest in IIM Jammu. Now, IIM Jammu has opened admission process for 2016-18 batch. Further, during the time that has passed, many applicants may have already confirmed other options for admissions. Given the relatively short time available for IIM Jammu admissions, the institute would not like to spend time on people who are not interested in IIM Jammu.
All these eligible candidates can apply for admission into the full time 2 year PGP 2016-18 program. The application process is online and can be completed by visiting IIM Lucknow website.
Intake at IIM Jammu
The 1st PGP 2016-18 batch at IIM Jammu is proposed to have an intake of 45 students. Category wise intake for the first batch as shared by IIM Lucknow is as under

IIM Jammu: Shortlisting criteria
The shortlisting Criteria for eligibility to be considered for admission of 45 candidates for Post Graduate Programme in Management, 2016-18 based on CAT 2015 cut off at IIM Jammu would be

-- Confirmation of interest
Candidates who are not shortlisted will not receive any email. Please note that eligible candidates who do not reconfirm their interest in admission to IIM Jammu shall be excluded from being considered for admission.

PI round at IIM Jammu
There will not be any GD/PI or WAT round for admission to PGP 2016-18 batch at IIM Jammu. According to Dr Prakash Singh, faculty at IIM Lucknow “The admission offers will be made by IIM Jammu on the basis of Expression of Interest; CAT 2015 percentile score and Academic profile.”
Fee structure
IIM Jammu proposes to have fee structure of Rs. 10 lakhs for the first PGP 2016-18 batch. IIM Jammu will share the exact amount and details of breakup in the admission offer. Leading banks routinely offer educational loans at concessional terms as per Govt. of India guidelines for all IIMs including IIM Jammu.
Faculty from IIM L to teach for 3 years
IIM Lucknow will mentor all activities at IIM Jammu till it moves to its permanent campus (about 3 years later), and IIM Jammu is able to handle these activities entirely on its own. Since recruiting full-time faculty is a fairly long process, during the mentorship period and while IIM Jammu’s own faculty are recruited, faculty members from IIM Lucknow will be delivering courses at IIM Jammu.
This may include a few visiting faculty selected by IIM Lucknow to meet their exacting standards. The overall design, quality and delivery of PGP will be to the standards and with direct involvement of IIM Lucknow. Candidates going to join IIM Jammu should expect to see some of the best faculty members in the country today.
Although the site for permanent campus of IIM Jammu is yet to be finalized, the preparatory classes for 1 month will be conducted at Noida campus of IIM Lucknow and thereafter most likely IIM Jammu may function from the Old University campus at Jammu which would be its transit campus till the permanent campus gets ready.
