CAT 2016: No need to stick to your MBA at lower rung B school; abandon and get the top IIM

Candidates who could not score high 2 years ago or last year and are pursuing MBA/PGDM from a lower rung B-school, still have the opportunity to take CAT 2016 to get into their dream IIM
Having a desire to fulfill your dream of getting into one of the top IIMs is one thing but whether you would be able to achieve this would depend on various key factors

With CAT 2016 notification for admission to 20 IIMs in 2017 going to be released a month from now, candidates who could not score high 2 years ago or last year and are pursuing MBA/PGDM from a lower rung B-school, still have the opportunity to take CAT 2016 to get into their dream IIM or other top rated B-school like FMS, SPJIMR, MDI, IMI, IMT, NITIE, JBIMS among others.

No restriction
According to the experts and mentors, in order to join a higher ranked IIM or other top B-school, you can give-up your MBA studies in the middle of the course and appear in CAT 2016 again to get into your dream B-school in 2017.

However, it will be difficult to pursue MBA/PGDM programme again once the course is completed unless and until the B-school allows you to obtain the management degree again.

How to get IIM tag, once the MBA is over
In case your MBA/PGDM programme is completed, you have the good option to apply and join the doctoral programme at the top rated IIMs. This will not only get you the top IIM tag but will also broaden your vision with best of IIM learning which you have been aspiring for.

Switching over B-schools: Common phenomenon
You may find many students in India who leave their studies during or after completion of the first year. Not only this, candidates give up the course even after summer internships and assured PPOs in hand, just to try their luck again with CAT to get into top rated B-schools like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, FMS, MDI among others.

Be careful while taking decision
It is not easy to arrive at the crucial decision of leaving the course and trying again for CAT 2016 to enter the top B-school a year after. Having a desire to fulfill your dream of getting into one of the top IIMs is one thing but whether you would be able to achieve this would depend on various key factors. Please note the failures might make you begin from the scratch again. So look before leaping into any mess.

Are you confident to score above 99 percentile?
How confident you are to score above 99 overall and not less than 90 sectional percentile in CAT 2016? If you are confident to score above it after 4 months of hard preparation, you should go for CAT 2016 again else leave it.

How good is your academic profile?
Apart from high scores in CAT 2016, you will need academic excellence. Candidates with excellent academic record with 90 percent and above marks right from Class 10 to bachelor’s degree may get the chance of converting the call at top IIMs.

Clear vision and thought
You must have a good grasping power with clear vision while expressing your views in written and verbal communication. It may need a good mentorship to groom you to that level to get through the PI round at IIMs. If you have the quality or can groom yourself to that standard, you can sure take the risk of appearing in CAT 2016 leaving your MBA course in the middle.

There is no doubt that switching over to one of the top IIMs or other B-schools can add wings to your career and making your life full of prospects. But still taking the right decision is equally important.
