IIM Tiruchirappalli class size to expand by 70; proposes to move to permanent campus in 2016

IIM Trichy increases its intake for PGP 2016-18 batch from 110 to 180 students with plan to move to its 117 acre permanent newly constructed campus

IIM Tiruchirappalli one the fastest rising among 20 IIMs of India plans to increase the intake by 70 students for PGP 2016-18 batch. At present there are 110 students at IIM Trichy and after increase in intake the number would go upto 180 students. While the admission process at IIM Trichy is over, the waitlist for the candidates shall be announced shortly.

Plans to move to permanent campus
PGP 2016-18 batch after studying for a month or so, at the existing temporary campus, may get the opportunity to study at the new permanent 175 acre sprawling campus of IIM Tiruchirappalli located at Trichy-Pudukkottai road. The shifting of campus may materialize in the months of August-September 2016.  At present IIM Trichy is operation from the transit campus at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy.

Among all the 6 new IIMs that started functioning in 2010-11, IIM Trichy appears to be the first IIM moving to its newly constructed permanent campus. The PGP 2016-18 batch would be lucky enough to have more leadership opportunities at the well equipped big permanent campus of IIM Trichy.

Faculty-student ratio at the best
Presently there are 35 faculty members at IIM Trichy. After the intake increases by 70 students, the total strength at the institute would be around 300. The teacher student ratio is one faculty member for 8 students or so. Accordingly the 8:1 student-faculty ratio at IIM Trichy is much better than prescribed by MHRD and can be considered ideal. There may be further addition in faculty recruitment, once IIM Trichy moves to its permanent campus.

Chennai centre conducting PGPBM
IIM Trichy apart from its main campus at Tiruchirappalli has another campus at Chennai which conducts Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM) as one of the flagship programmes of IIM Tiruchirappalli (IIMT).

PGPBM was launched in 2012 to groom working executives in and around Chennai, who aspire to move into senior leadership roles. The programme aims to develop competent professional managers, capable of working in any sector of organized activity, provide leadership and achieve excellence even while contributing to the welfare of society at large.

IIM Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), the 11th IIM in the country started functioning in 2011 under the directorship of Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri whose latest innovation in teaching is 'application of inquiry method of learning to the management education' which has brought distinction to the institute in its innovative method of teaching.

The institute focuses on developing competent professionals for the industry.The flagship programme, PGPM has been instrumental in achievement of this goal.
