IIM Lucknow National Leadership Award 2007 for Sunil Bharti Mittal

President of India Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil awarded India's business tycoon Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, CMD, Bharti Group with the Lakshmipat Singhania- IIM Lucknow National Leadership Award 2007 in the field of business.

The award ceremony was held in the capital on February 12. The young leader award in the field of business was conferred to Mr R Subramanian, Founder of Retail company Subhiksha.  

An annual feature, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow confers two awards – one to a Leader and another to a Young achiever. These awards are given in three categories including Business, Science &Technology, and Community Service & Social Upliftment.   

Other leaders who were awarded include Dr Anil Kakodkar in the field of science & Technology, Smt Aruna Dalmia in Community Service & Social Upliftment area. On the other hand young achiever award were conferred to Dr Atish Dabholkar in science & Technology and Mr Dipendra Manocha in community Service & Social Upliftment.  

In the last 3 years, personalities like Mr Ratan N. Tata, Dr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Mr Kumarmangalam Birla, Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Prof. C. N. R. Rao, Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Smt. Illa Bhatt and Sh. Rajender Singh and Dr. SS Badrinath were awarded in the Leaders category, and Shri Kishor Biyani, Smt. Mallika Srinivasan, Sh. Shirish B. Purohit, Dr. Swati Piramal, Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Ms. Neelima Khaitan in the Young Leaders category.     

Talking about the award, IIM-L says, "In addition to creation, dissemination, and application of knowledge for better managing the corporate and non-corporate sectors of the country, the Institute has always possessed a deep-felt sense of social responsibility towards the society at large. The awards were conceived to honour those individuals who have done outstanding work in their respective fields thus creating a niche for Indians on a global scale."   

In the year 2004, the awardees were honoured by the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, in 2005 by the Hon'ble Finance Minister of India, Sh. P. Chidambaram, and in 2006 by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh at the award functions held at New Delhi.
