Final Placements 07-08: SIBM sees 20% increase in average salary

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune has scaled new heights with the successful close of the Campus Recruitment Programme 2007 – 08.

This year, the average stipend on campus has increased 20% from last year. According to SIBIM Pune, "This year's average salary was Rs. 10.38 lakhs p.a. and median salary stood at Rs 9.62 lakhs p.a." The highest international offer was made by Olam International at $85,000, while the highest domestic offer stood at Rs14 lakhs p.a., which was up by nearly 35% from last year's level. According to SIBM, "The lowest accepted salary was Rs 7 lakhs p.a. The number of offers above Rs10 lakhs p.a. touched an figure of 53." 

A total of 93 recruiters spanning domestic geographies as well as international recruiters, participated to recruit the talent at SIBM. During the placements 166 students of the SIBM MBA Batch of 2008 received 233 offers. According to SIBM Pune Placement Report 2008, "The average number of offers standing at 1.4 offers per student." 

Varied sectors participated in the recruitment drive ranging from Consulting, FMCG, Banking & Financial Services, IT & ITES, Manufacturing & Consumer Durables, Telecom to Automobile, Retail, Media and Advertising, amongst others. 

Along with the regular recruiters including Asian Paints, Dabur, Godrej Industries, IBM, ITC, Infosys Technologies, Intel, JP Morgan Services and Wipro; this year was marked by the participation of new global recruiters like Jumbo Electronics and Protiviti Inc. According to SIBM Pune, "These first timers along with regular global recruiter Olam International made 11 offers." The profiles offered were for positions in Africa, Dubai, Kuwait, and Singapore. 

The campus also saw a new domestic recruiters across various sectors including Barclays Bank, Birlasoft India, Cummins India, CFC International, Essar Group, GE India, Hewitt Associates, Mu Sigma Business Services, Oracle India, Pepsico, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sun Microsystems, Sybase, Virgin Mobile and UBS. 

The Consulting space saw increased participation with recruiters like Avalon Consulting, Capgemini Consulting, Hewitt Associates, Mercer, Mu Sigma Business Services and more.  

According to SIBM Pune, "A total of 70 lateral offers were made, out of which 43 were accepted." Lateral students, with experience in sectors as diverse as IT & ITES, Banking & Financial Services, FMCG and Manufacturing were made offers from Avalon Consulting, Birlasoft, Capgemini, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Cummins India, CFC International, Grow Talent, HCL Technologies, Infosys Technologies, IBM India. 

"Over 12% of the batch got recruited into FMCG sector and 22% of the batch accepted offers in IT & ITES sector," according to SIBM Pune Placement Report 08. The major FMCG players included Agro Tech Foods, Asian Paints, Castrol, Coca-Cola India, Dabur, GlaxoSmithKline, Philips, Godrej Industries, ITC, L'Oreal, Pepsico, Perfetti Van Melle etc. 

On the other hand a total of 62 offers were made in the IT IteS sector. The participants in this sector included 3i Infotech, Birlasoft, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Hewlett Packard India, HCL Technologies, Infosys Technologies, Infosys BPO, Intel, and IBM India. 

 The first time recruiter in consulting sector PricewaterhouseCoopers made11 offers. The others were Avalon Consulting, Capgemini Consulting, Grow Talent, Hewitt Associates, IMRB International, Mercer, Mindtree Consulting, and Mu Sigma Business Solutions.  

In Banking & Financial Services sector saw new relationships being established with organizations like Barclays Bank, JM Financial and UBS India Services. 

Telecom sector saw increased participation and first time recruiter Virgin Mobile. While previous recruiters like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone provided also made offers.
