Leading B-School University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business (GSB) visited India recently to promote its Executive MBA programme (EMBA).

GBS's EMBA is world's first executive MBA programme, first offered in 1943, and is targeted at mid-level executives. The programme is currently being run in three locations – Chicago, London and Singapore, with about 90 seats in each location.

GSB held two information sessions in India earlier this week. The first session was held in Bangalore on February 12 and the second session was held in New Delhi on February 14. These sessions were attended by over hundred working executives.

The GSB EMBA programme is a 21 month programme, where working executives are expected to attend classes for a week in Singapore, London or Chicago campus, once every 5-6 weeks.

Talking about the unique features of GSB's EMBA programmes, Sugita Ria, Marketing Director of GSB Asia Campus, told MBAUniverse.com, "One of the important features of our EMBA programme is that it earns the candidate a full MBA degree from University of Chicago's GSB. This is the same degree that a candidate will earn while pursuing a full time MBA in main campus in Chicago. All faculty members who teach at Singapore campus fly from Chicago. This qualification adds a lot of credibility."

When asked about what is the profile of candidates that the programme is seeking from India, Ms Ria said, "We expect our applicants to have decent academic record, good working performance and above all a good future career advancement potential. We have about 10 % of our Singapore class made of India executives."

Is GMAT score an essential for getting into the programme? No, says GSB official. "It is not mandatory to have a GMAT score of GSB EMBA. But, if you have lesser work-experience (7-10 years), a good GMAT score will improve your chances of admission," says Ms Rai. GSB prefers working professionals with about 10 years of experience for its EMBA Programme.

The deadline for admission application process for GSB EMBA programme is April 1, 2008, inform officials.

Of course, this fancy degree from an elite institution doesn't come cheap. Successful applicants are expected to shell out US$ 102,000 for the 21-month course. This doesn't include travel to Singapore and boarding expenses.

Founded in 1898, the University of Chicago GSB is known for its Nobel Prize winning faculty. Its Full-Time MBA Program was ranked #1 Business Week biennial rankings, 2006 and #1 The Economist Intelligence Unit, 2007. The Executive MBA Programs was ranked #3 by U.S. News & World Report, 2007 and also #3 by Business Week, 2007.
