With CAT 2016 exam notification round the corner, anxiety among aspirants regarding the surprises and changes in the exam is mounting
I hope CAT 2016 convener will accede to my requests for changes in exam and CAT 2016 may not prove to be a nightmare for me CAT 2016 aspirant

With CAT 2016 exam notification round the corner, anxiety among aspirants regarding the surprises and changes in the exam is mounting. We share below the wish list of such a CAT 2016 aspirant who appeared in CAT last year also but despite a high percentile could not make it to desired IIM.

CAT 2016 exam notification will be out this Sunday on July 31, as per different media reports. I am sure this is the right time to forward my wish list to CAT 2016 convener regarding the changes requested by many aspirants whether they are freshers or are appearing for the exam second time.

I appeared in CAT last year also but got stumped by too many changes. I am preparing hard again for CAT 2016 and am keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that IIM Bangalore will bring some favourable changes for CAT takers like me. I hope CAT 2016 convener will accede to my requests for changes in exam and CAT 2016 may not prove to be a nightmare for me.

CAT 2016 with 2 or 4 sections
I request CAT 2016 convener Prof Rajendra K Bandi to split Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning into 2 sections of 16 questions each and make CAT 2016 an exam with 4 sections.

If it is not possible, please club DI and LR to their respective Quant and Verbal sections in CAT 2016 and make it 2 section exam since clubbing the duo forming a separate section did cost me a lot as despite scoring high I could not qualify on the minimum required percentile in one section.

My concern is that DILR questions are always tricky and time consuming. Earlier they were clubbed to other sections and the support system worked well. In the new pattern both DI and LR questions have found place in same section. If IIM Bangalore and testing partner TCS can think over this issue, it will be better to club back both DI and LR parts to their parent sections. In case it is not possible, both of them should be separated and placed as separate sections with more time limit to solve.

No Sectional Time constraint
I am good at VARC and can solve what I wish to attempt in 45 minutes. I did not solve nor do I propose to attempt all the questions in VARC section. I don’t go beyond 15-16 questions in this section but ensure that they are solved with utmost accuracy. As such I am left with 15 surplus minutes. I am unable to utilise them to other section in which I am a little weak. If I remain stuck to 1st section, I will try to decode some more questions and this temptation will result in some wrong answers. I will lose my merit rank if it happens again.

My request to CAT 2016 convener is to remove the sectional time limit and allow the test takers to move between the sections so that they can attempt the question from any section they like.

It was a tough time for the candidates like me who attempted one section a few minutes before the allotted time limit but could not move on to other section. It so happened that due to this time constraint I lost my threshold percentile in one of the three sections despite scoring high overall percentile.

CAT 2016 aspirants like me who are planning to appear again in CAT 2016 are worried what more tough changes could be there in coming exam. It would be a good aspirant friendly change, if the sectional time limit is removed and the test takers are allowed to move between the sections in CAT 2016.

Allow 2 weekends for CAT 2016
Dear Convener CAT 2016, can I request you to increase the CAT 2016 testing window from 1 day to 2 days and divide it into 2 week-ends. It was shortened for the first time from 20 days to 2 days in 2014. Then it was further crunched to only 1 day in 2015. Now I hope you are not planning to make it one day – one session event.

Even if you plan to go for 1 session in 1 day, please make it for 2 days in 2 weekends and 1 session on each day. The reasons is that sufficient gap between other exam like NMAT by GMAC; IIFT and CAT is needed.

We will have to go for rescheduling the other exam and have to incur higher expenses and re-plan our journey. It may be note worthy that registration for NMAT by GMAC and IIFT has already begun. It is very much possible that the test dates for longer duration exam may clash with CAT 2016. Besides, there are limited test centres for IIFT entrance exam.

I agree that that it is your prerogative to take decision on all the aspects of CAT 2016 but we are also the major stake holders and without us there is no relevance of any exam including CAT. Our suggestions are not out of place and you can sure consider them favourably.

We shall be waiting for the release of CAT 2016 exam notification on Sunday and hope our wishes will be granted by you.
