Every successful manager needs to be conversant with analytical skills Dr R Raman Director SIBM Pune

SNAP 2016 revised exam pattern has reduced the score weightage to Analytical and Logical Reasoning section by more than 6%. Earlier the weightage awarded to this section used to be 33% but in the changed exam pattern of SNAP 2016, this section will have only 26.66% weight to total score. Nonetheless, Reasoning section still commands the role of major percentile booster in SNAP 2016.

SNAP used to award more emphasis on Analytical and logical ability which constituted one third part of the total score. Out of total score of 180 earlier the 30 MCQs on Reasoning carried 60 marks.

The pattern has been changed for SNAP 2016. Not only total score has been reduced from 180 to 150, share of questions in Reasoning section has been increased from 30 to 40 carrying the weightage of 1 mark for each question. Accordingly, total weightage has been reduced from 60 marks to 40 marks out of 150 maximum score in SNAP 2016.

Reasoning still to play key role
However, if an aspirant can focus on this section, he/she may be assured of getting a good score in written test as it commands equal weightage in SNAP 2016 as other major sections do. Sharing about the importance of this section, Dr Raman, Director SIBM Pune says “Analytical skills fundamentally include areas like computing, visualization, articulation, and problem solving. Many don’t realize the fact that these skills cannot be taught in a classroom, they are learnt by facing and solving problems in real life.”

After CAT 2016, the SNAP 2016 is the next important entrance test for MBA batch 2017-19 in Symbiosis International University affiliated B schools. Getting a good score in SNAP 2016 test can get the aspirant into one of the 15 Symbiosis B-schools across the country including Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) Pune. SNAP 2016 will be held across the country in 32 exam cities.

SNAP 2016 will be divided in 4 sections with total number of 150 questions and 150 marks. The maximum score of 150 marks can be earned by solving the test paper in 120 minutes meaning 1 minute per question is available to solve paper pen based test.

40 Qs carry 40 marks
Reasoning section in SNAP 2016 termed as Analytical and Logical Reasoning has equal weightage as other important sections have. The test components will consist of Verbal Ability and Reading comprehension – 40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks; Quantitative Ability and Data interpretation-40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks; Analytical and Logical Reasoning- 40 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 40 marks and Current Affairs-30 questions of 1 mark each i.e. 30 marks.

Candidates are allowed to attempt any section in any order but the sectional cut off in SNAP 2016 may not be compromised. One has to score at least a minimum cut off score in each of the four sections.

Reasoning: your percentile booster
SNAP 2016 despite reducing weightage to Reasoning, will lay substantial emphasis on Analytical and Logical Reasoning section. According to SIBM Pune Director, Dr R Raman, “Every successful manager needs to be conversant with analytical skills. In the future business scenario, it is very important to understand and work with quantitative information. This fundamentally makes analytical skills highly important in every aspect for every single job out there in the market, which future managers aspire to take up.”

High scoring tips for SNAP 2016
Prof. S.K. Agarwal, expert on Verbal and Logical Ability, shares following quick tips for the benefit of prospective SNAP 2016 aspirants, to score more in Analytical and Logical Reasoning.

Logical Reasoning plays a key role in SNAP. Aspirants usually do not prefer preparing it the way they prepare the quant and Verbal. There is no doubt that the syllabus for this section is scattered and not defined yet one may organise the studies systematically by placing more focus on following topics.

Now CAT has also de-clubbed Logical Reasoning from the Verbal Ability section and it is unlikely that the candidates appearing for SNAP 2016 will not appear for CAT 2016, it is a good opportunity to utilize the rich LR preparation for SNAP 2016 also.

Problems on Analytical and logical Ability are based on natural human logics, so they can be understood and solved fairly easily, if proper attention is paid to this section. It serves as an aid to facilitate your entry to the top B-schools since it improves your percentile with a little logical understanding of the reasoning based questions.

Important topics
Following topics must be given due attention and practiced well to score high in SNAP 2016 - Seating Arrangements; Matching puzzles; Constraint based arrangements; Blood Relations – family tree; Syllogism; Proposition based followed by either deductive or inductive argument; Assumptions; Statements; Sets; Binary logic; Venn Diagrams; Clocks and Calendars; team formation; Analogy.

Good preparation in shorter time
Unlike the questions in Verbal Ability, Quantitative and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning needs less efforts and the questions in this section can be solved by following logic and natural instincts. The only need is to practice more and more questions of numerous types every day.

The vocabulary used in logical reasoning questions is different from the one used in Verbal Ability hence it is imperative that you must have the knowledge of the terminology used in this part, since the questions are formed on the topics based on the said terminology in SNAP.

Although topics on Logical Reasoning cannot be restricted to above nor there is any limitation to what should and what shouldn’t appear in this section of SNAP 2016, above topics, if prepared well, will lead an aspirant to a well-placed position.

SNAP 2016 will be held on December 18, 2016 in a single session. It will be a paper pen and Multiple Choice Questions based examination of 2 hours duration and candidates are allowed with blue or black ball pen, preferably black as the OMR sheet in black ink can be better read by the system. SNAP 2016 is the gateway to 15 Symbiosis institutes offering MBA courses and are affiliated to Symbiosis International University Pune. Registration process for SNAP 2016 is online and is open till November 22, 2016.
