Disha 2016 – The 5 day annual HR conclave of T. A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal started off on August 23, with the theme “VUCA World: HR at Crossroads?” The Chief Guest of this year’s event was Mr Dilpreet Singh, Director- HR, IBM India and the keynote speaker was Mr Abhay Gupte, CEO- Manipal Technologies. Mr Pramod N Fernandes, Group CHRO- Manipal group, Dr. R. C. Natrajan, Director- TAPMI and Prof. Col. P. S. James, Area Chair of HR- TAPMI were also among the dignitaries present.
Mr Abhay Gupte, the keynote speaker explained the theme “VUCA world : HR at Crossroad”. According to him there are three generations at workplace now which is creating a lot new jobs both known and unknown. The new challenge today is that tech savvy generation is competing against a generation with experience. Integrating these generation gaps and integrating its workers is the disruption necessary today. We now need to select leaders who do not need much nurturing and can work efficiently with clarity of thought.
Mr. Dilpreet Singh summed up his preceding speakers, both agreeing and disagreeing with their views. He said, “HR is not at crossroads, because there is only one entry to the VUCA world.” He believes that the trigger behind the change is emerging technology, which can be disruptive and transformative. But technology is going to get smarter and smarter and we need to keep up. Mr Singh stated that a consumer centric economy is the cause of uncertainty in today’s world. The role of an HR personnel is to anticipate and predict the change; there is a need for shift from predictive analytics to prescriptive analytics. He mentioned that TAPMI Bloomberg lab is what all HR personnel need to analyse and anticipate the market. In the future, the major differentiator of an individual will be his/her talent. Mr Singh believes that talent will be diversified and dynamic in nature.
Ms. Puja Agarwal, the convenor of Disha and HR forum welcomed the guests. The inauguration came to a close with the Master of Ceremony, Ms. Sharvary Naik proposing the vote of thanks.
