IIM Ahmedabad after modifying and revamping its PGP, PGP-FABM and FABM programmes a year before, is now on the path to increase seats for PGP 2017-19 batch. MHRD has confirmed the receipt of such proposal from IIM Ahmedabad. If approved by MHRD, the proposal could prove to be a good opportunity for CAT 2016 aspirants as more of them will be offered admission in IIM Ahmedabad in 2017.
So far the total intake in PGP and PGP-FABM taken together is 440. In addition to this intake, Supernumerary seats were also added with effect from academic session 2015-16 over and above the regular intake in the flagship PGP Programme at IIM Ahmedabad. The addition of Supernumerary seats in 2015-16 also offered more space for domestic admission seekers to IIM Ahmedabad as foreign students could not encroach upon their seats and also the IIM Ahmedabad could focus more on getting quality students from abroad. Prof. Ajay Pandey, Dean Programs, IIM Ahmedabad was of the view “Our objective is to get quality foreign students to bring in diversity, and also to position the institute as a global learning destination for management students.”
The undisputed no. 1 B school of India has brought good news for CAT 2016 takers as IIM Ahmedabad will be able to further go for academic and gender diversity in its class rooms with more students. With the increase in intake at IIM Ahmedabad, CAT 2016 takers and IIMA aspirants will be benefitted with the more number of seats available for them.

Besides, there are supernumerary seats for foreign students who are offered admission on the basis of GMAT scores. Admission to PGPX will also be offered on the basis of GMAT scores. For all other programme, domestic candidates will need CAT 2016 scores on the basis of which they will be shortlisted for final admission round.

IIM Ahmedabad needs high CAT 2016 scores with other parameters
Post Graduate Programme (PGP) at IIM Ahmedabad is the most sought after 2 years full time flagship programme. Indian Nationals seeking admission in PGP batch 2017-19 at IIMA will be shortlisted for final admission round on the basis of their high CAT 2016 scores. IIMA shortlisting process will consider high overall as well as sectional percentile in CAT 2016. Other important shortlisting criteria for PGP 2017 admission are excellent academic record, work experience, gender and academic diversity.
The shortlisting process is divided in 5 categories at IIM Ahmedabad. Candidates from General, NC-OBC, SC, ST, DA categories are separately shortlisted. In order to recognize the exceptional performers in each of these 5 categories across diverse academic background, IIMA identifies top 50 candidates or 1% of total applicants who apply to IIMA, whichever is lower and directly shortlists them for final admission round. Minimum qualifying score in CAT 2016, as prescribed by IIM Ahmedabad will is 80 percentile overall and 70 percentile sectional in CAT 2016 to shortlist the candidates.
Components of Final admission round at IIM Ahmedabad constitute Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interaction (PI) on the basis of which final admission offer is made to the candidates.
Not only for IIM Ahmedabad, CAT 2016 is the mandatory exam to shortlist candidates for final admission by all the 20 IIMs. Registration for CAT 2016 is open till September 22 and the exam in computer based format will be held on December 4, 2016 in 2 sessions.
