IIFT 2016 entrance exam for MBA (IB) 2017-19 will offer good opportunity to get admission in either of the 2 campuses situated in Delhi and Kolkata of the highly ranked Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. The entrance exam in paper-pen mode will be held on November 27, 2016 in 20 cities across the country and will have 4 components without any sectional time constraints.

6But those who have prepared, appeared and got shortlisted for admission on the basis of IIFT entrance exam  earlier, are of the view that IIFT entrance is one of the toughest exams which needs focused preparation and quick decision to mark the correct answer option since all the answer options are very close ones.

The biggest problem for IIFT 2016 test takers now is how to prepare for this exam in next 60 days and how to synchronise its preparation with other forthcoming MBA entrance exams like CAT 2016, SNAP 2016 and XAT 2017.

How to synchronise? Expert tips
Prof S K Agarwal expert on Verbal Ability and mentor on preparation for CAT, IIFT, SNAP and XAT exams shares insight and key tips how to synchronise the preparation for all the MBA entrance exams according to their structure and contents.

In fact those who are preparing for IIFT 2016 are also preparing for at least one more MBA entrance exam especially CAT 2016 and if they are a bit more proactive and have gone through the admission policy of Non-IIMs, they may be aware that number of Non-IIMs will also accept XAT 2017 scores while all the 15 Symbiosis B-schools will accept only SNAP 2016 scores for admission to their MBA/PGDM 2017-19 programmes.

Except CAT 2016, all the other MBA entrance exams have GK added as one the test components. Even CAT 2016 has more or less similar components except GK which need to be prepared for the exam. So the key topics which need to prepared by the IIFT 2016 aspirants are more of less same for each exam. Let us know what do we have to prepare for each section in IIFT and other prominent MBA entrance exams.

There are no fixed number of questions in IIFT entance test, their number may go anywhere in the range of 115 to 130. The exam will be divided in following 4 sections-

Quantitative Ability & DI
Number of question in this section can be somewhere between 25 to 28. It is expected that in IIFT 2016,  25 questions will appear. Major topics to be prepared to crack this section are on the same lines as in CAT 2016 namely, Probability, Integers, Time, distance, speed, Time & work, percentage, Algebra, Mensuration, Log theory, Geometry, PnC among others.

Around 20 questions are expected in Data Interpretation part. IIFT asks 19-21 DI questions in different data forms like tables and bar diagrams.  The information part is followed by 4-5 questions so it’s worth trying with patience.  A little more practice on the lines of CAT 2016 can be of great help in this section

English Comprehension
English comprehension is composed of core verbal ability and questions on Reading comprehension passages. While preparation on RC passages is equally very important for all other MBA entrance exams, the core Verbal Ability questions are on the lines of SNAP and XAT.

Around 36 questions on English comprehension are expected to appear in IIFT entrance test on the topics that include  One word substitution, Fill in the blanks, Jumbled sentences, Analogy, Phrasal explanation, Grammatically correct or incorrect sentences, Figures of Speech, Spelling correction, Antonyms, Active-Passive, Reading comprehension  around 4-5 passages.

Logical Reasoning
Logical reasoning section is expected to have 20 questions based on blood relations, seating arrangements, series, analogy, sets as appear in other MBA entrance exams.  IIFT covers almost all the topics in logical reasoning with 1 or 2 questions on each.  Statements, arguments, conclusions are a few favourite topics which require more in depth study.

General Awareness
GK is equally important in IIFT and forms one of the trickiest sections. If you are preparing for XAT and SNAP, you must synchronise your preparation with IIFT 2016. 28-30 questions could be there to test the General Awareness of the aspirants in IIFT 2016 entrance exam. Questions cover conventional as well as current national and international affairs and relevant economic, business topics apart from major policy decisions.

Questions can also be based to test the aspirants’ awareness about the birthday of famous personalities; their work; Constitution of India; fictional characters.

The candidate may attempt any question from any section during the time allotted to attempt the test in the examination.

Marking system in IIFT Entrance
The marking system may vary from question to question or from section to section in the range of 0.5 to 1 mark per question.

Penalty of one third marks will be awarded for every wrong answer. The candidates therefore have to be careful to avoid this negative marking by choosing the answer options with well calculated thought process.

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) will conduct the entrance test on November 27, 2016 for admission to its 2 years MBA(IB) in Delhi and Kolkata campuses in paper pen mode  from 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 Noon.

In the second phase of admission  round profile of a candidate like academic record, work experience, writing skills will play an important role to secure admission in IIFT.

In view of Prof. S.K. Agarwal, expert on Verbal Ability and mentor on IIFT preparation,  time management is the most important part to score high in the examination.  Entrance test to IIFT requires consistent and planned study pattern. The examination in itself is a little tricky and questions in Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension are sometimes indirect and quite confusing also.

All the 4 sections in the examination are equally important as you need to score a high percentile.  If you are serious enough and have prepared well for IIFT 2016, you must continue in the same spirit. Despite different exam pattern as against other MBA entrance exams, the line of preparation for IIFT exam could remain the same. Most of the questions are similar and based on the same concepts of English language, Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning as appear in all the MBA entrance examinations; the need is to improve your attempts in limited time.
