IIM Bangalore will now enable the CAT 2016 mock test in the end of October instead of making it available today on October 18 as announced earlier
The CAT 2016 Mock Test link shall be available by the end of October 2016 IIM Bangalore

CAT 2016 practice test as a full length replica exam with all the working navigation tools is delayed by 10 days and will now be available in the October end. The official mock test for CAT 2016 was earlier supposed to be available for practice purpose with effect from October 18, 2016 as announced with the notification on July 31, 2016.

Sharing the delay in making available the CAT 2016 practice test, in response to the query, IIM Bangalore has clarified  “The CAT 2016 Mock Test link shall be available by the end of October 2016.” Yesterday only IIM Bangalore announced the 6 days delay in issuance of CAT 2016 admit card which will now be available from October 24 onwards instead of earlier announced date of October 18.

Earlier with CAT 2016 announcement and release of notification, IIM Bangalore categorically mentioned “Tutorial to understand the format of the examination will be available on the CAT website from 18th October 2016. Candidates are advised to work on the tutorials, available on the website, well in advance.”

Now the CAT 2016 aspirants will have to wait for another 10-12 days as IIM Bangalore has not informed about the exact date of making available the CAT 2016 mock test and has only shared that the same will be available in the October end on the CAT website. The October end is not defined with the date and it could be on any date from October 28 to October 31.

Now CAT 2016 aspirants will have only one month to understand the exam format comprising MCQ & Non-MCQs and practice the questions based on the mock test to be uploaded on CAT 2016 website by the end of October 2016.

Expect full length practice test
CAT 2016 convener is expected to make available the full length sample practice test for CAT 2016 exam as has been done during previous 2 years of CAT in 2014 and 2015.

The full length mock test for CAT 2016 must be enabled by IIM Bangalore as till date there is no information shared about the total number of  questions and their sectional division proposed to be placed in CAT 2016. During previous years since CAT was computerised, the total number of questions and their sectional division used to be shared alongwith the release of CAT notification.

However, this year Prof Bandi, CAT 2016 convener and faculty at IIM Bangalore, has kept this information as confidential and secret and has replied to various queries citing secrecy and confidentiality as the reasons for not disclosing the number of questions proposed to appear in CAT 2016.

Accordingly, with very little information available about the exact nature and composition of CAT 2016 questions, it will be necessary that the practice test should be full length and should contain the number and composition of MCQs and Non-MCQs proposed to be placed in the exam.

CAT 2016: Practice test contents
The full length official practice test for CAT 2016 would contain-

-- Total questions divided in 3 sections – VARC; DILR and Quant
-- Mock test will begin in the same order- Section-1-VARC; Section-2-DILR and Section-3-Quant
-- Sections should contain MCQs and Non-MCQs in the ratio that would appear in CAT 2016 exam
-- 60 minutes for each section to solve will be allowed
-- No facility to move from one section to other unless the time is completed for one section will be allowed
-- Candidates will have to move strictly as per order of the sections beginning from section-1 and concluding with section-3
-- Details on navigation tools-how to mark, unmark and review the answer will be made available with the practice test
-- CAT 2016 Mock test will have the same scoring pattern with negative marking for MCQs and no negative marking for Non-MCQs

CAT aspirants keep waiting
Candidates are in dark about the composition of questions in CAT 2016. Unless the practice test is enabled, it will not be possible for the aspirants to know the exact exam pattern. Now the publishing of new exam pattern and practice test will help not only the first timers in CAT 2016 but also those who have been burning mid night oil to crack CAT 2016.

Last year also CAT aspirants had to wait as the practice test was enabled on October 29,  instead of on October 15, 2015.

According to Prof S K Agarwal, expert on Verbal Ability and mentor for CAT 2016 preparation, candidates may expect any form of surprise element in exam contents. The questions in CAT 2016 may be twisted. Standard type of questions which the candidates normally see in the test may disappear  and questions in different format may appear.

Going by the reputation of CAT testing pattern, surprise elements appear in CAT even when there is no change in exam pattern. Now with so many changes especially when CAT 2016 has not shared anything about the number of total or sectional composition of questions, a candidate should expect more twists and turns in the test content.

CAT 2016 will be a 3 hours computer based exam with individual sectional time constraint of 60 minutes. It will be a single day 2 session exam to be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016. The exam is mandatory entrance test for admission to PGP/MBA 2017-19  batch in 20 IIMs and other top rated B-schools like FMS Delhi, SPJIMR, MDI, IMI, IMT, BIMTECH, TAPMI, XIMB among others.
