The changes are brought to achieve an alignment of the programme with the vision of the institute, which is to impact the business and society by way of grooming leadership - Dr Atish Chattopadhyay Director, IMT Ghaziabad

CAT 2016 aspirants applying for PGDM 2017-19 at IMT Ghaziabad will find changed admission process to the institute. IMT Ghaziabad has announced various innovations & changes in its PGDM programme architecture and departure from its regular selection process to a new and innovative method of selecting the “IMT-fit” candidates via the CT-GE-PI process. IMT expects to get the best fit candidates who are imbibed in the IMT core values of Innovation, Execution and Social Responsibility.

According to Dr Atish Chattopadhyay, Director IMT Ghaziabad “The admission process will have 3 stages – the first is a test of Critical and Analytical Thinking as we feel it is a crucial competence that an aspirant who wants to get into IMT must possess; Second stage is a Group Exercise (Not a Group Discussion) which is to identify those who have abilities such as teaming, innovation potential, collaborating in a group and effective communication; The third stage is a Personal Interview where we’re looking for 4 key things – academics (learning orientation & general awareness), past experience or interest in chosen career, extracurricular orientation, and a certain degree of IMT values (Go-getters, who are matured, and are responsible members of the society).”

IMT Ghaziabad will accept CAT 2016 and XAT 2017 scores to shortlist candidates for final selection round but the admission process will have a radical shift. Post short-listing on the basis of available scores, applicants will be called for CT-GE-PI process and the final offering will be based on scores, performance in CT-GE-PI process and overall profile of candidate.

Key Changes in admission process
CT in place of CnPI
Post short-listing on the basis of available scores in CAT 2016, XAT 2017 or GMAT, the shortlisted candidates will be called in for a Critical Thinking (CT) round of 30 minutes in place of Communication and Personal Interview (CnPI) round.

Critical Thinking will evaluate the candidate on three parameters - critical thinking, written communication skills and innovation & creativity.

GE instead of GD
IMT Ghaziabad will no longer have Group Discussion round but will conduct a 30 minutes Group Exercise (GE) instead.

After the critical thinking test, the candidates will be formed into small groups and will perform a Group Exercise. The group will be given a problem to solve or a task to perform, which they must do together with discussion among group members. For instance, they might be asked to do a short case study, solve a puzzle, or solve a business problem. This will take approximately 30 minutes and will evaluate the candidate on four parameters – contribution of ideas, leadership potential, interpersonal skills and communication & attitude.

PI to follow GE
After the Group Exercise, the candidate will have a personal interview of approximately 15 minutes, during which he/she will be evaluated on four parameters: domain knowledge, communication skills, versatility (extra-curricular activities / general awareness), as well as values & maturity. Candidates With work experience will be additionally evaluated on the relevance of their work experience in relation to the PGDM program.

The final merit of the candidate will be a cumulative weighted average which has the Academic Scores, Work Experience and the scores obtained during the CT-GE-PI process.

Changes to align IMT Vision
According to Dr Atish Chattopadhyay, Director IMT Ghaziabad, “The changes are brought to achieve an alignment of the programme with the vision of the institute, which is to impact the business and society by way of grooming leadership. It implies that each of the admissions (input), the curriculum, the delivery mechanism, and our graduates (output) should also be in alignment with this vision. We would like to communicate this to all our stakeholders including the recruiters who would look for professionals with certain values, which means individuals who are innovative and entrepreneurial, who can execute effectively, understand implementation feasibility, and are socially responsible.”

Accordingly, the process has been rolled out to achieve this alignment. The process is meant to achieve the alignment of the vision with those who come into the programme, the education that happens in the programme, and reaching out to industry which values individuals who come with the above orientation.

IMT Ghaziabad, as an institution, considers three pillars which form the foundation of grooming leadership – the first being Innovation and Entrepreneurial Orientation, the second Execution or Understanding of Implementation Feasibility, and the third pillar is the whole issue of Social Responsibility. So the change or rather the process that has been set in motion is to achieve an alignment of the curriculum with the vision of the institute.
