Extending his very best wishes to the policy and for its successful implementation Honorable President Dr. Pranab Mukherjee launched the  National Student Startup Policy (NSSP) of AICTE at  a grand function held at the Rastrapati Bhavan on November 16.

Present on the occasion were the Minister for HRD Shri Prakash Javadekar, AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe apart from Vice Chancellors and dignitaries of 126 Central Universities and Directors of IITs and NITs who were in attendance at the inaugural ceremony.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Hon’ble president said , “India is currently at number three in the global ranking of startup ecosystem and with the AICTE Startup Policy, our aim should be to become the number one startup ecosystem in the world."

Extending his best wishes, the Minister for HRD Shri Prakash Javadekar said that AICTE has taken this important step towards empowering students to become job providers.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe said,"The Student Startup Policy is aligned to the Prime Minister’s Startup India Action Plan to speed up the process of turning India into a global startup powerhouse by making entrepreneurship one of the mainstream career choice for students."

The NSSP is a novel initiative from Dr. Sahasrabudhe who envisioned two key factors of this Student Start-up program  namely  Designing the Policy and Implementation of the Policy. Dr. Sahasrabudhe formed two high-powered committees and entrusted the work to them.

The policy designing committee Chairman is Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) who has created a unique model of entrepreneurship development in Gujarat and the Policy implementation committee Chairman is Mr. Sanjay Inamdar, first generation entrepreneur, a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and member of the board of governors of College of Engineering Pune. The Policy Committee has leading student startup experts like Mr. Sanjay Vijaykumar and Mr. Hiranmay Mohanta who have led Kerala and Gujarat states on start-ups with their sustained efforts and innovative student friendly approach.

AICTE covers more than 10000 institutes and 80 Lakh students. The policy aims at creating 100,000 student startups over next 10 years creating over one million new jobs in the country by 2025.

For funding incubators and startups for the roll out of the policy, AICTE will act as a knowledge partner to NITI Ayog, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Industry Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Right from the beginning when he took over as Chairman AICTE, Dr Sahasrabudhe has been putting emphasis on encouraging entrepreneurship and start-ups in education institutions. During an exclusive interview with MBAUniverse.com he said, “B-schools and engineering colleges focus merely on placements. The number of start-ups from B-school campuses is very few. We need to change this. ACITE has formulated a committee to recommend how we can promote Start-ups and Entrepreneurship in campuses. We will create an enabling environment for promoting entrepreneurship in our campuses very soon.” http://www.mbauniverse.com/article/id/9561/AICTE

Keeping his commitment, Dr Sahasrabudhe has taken all steps to turn the dream true and enable the students to become as job providers instead of job seekers.
