Final Placement 2008: XLRI concludes Lateral Placements

Geared towards students with prior industry experience, the recently concluded Lateral Placements at XLRI have been a big success.

A plethora of offers were received in varied profiles such as Finance, Consultancy, Operations, Marketing, Human Resources among many others. According to XLRI, in total, over a 100 offers were made during the lateral season to 90 eligible lateral candidates for senior level management roles. The average salary package offered was Rs. 15 lacs. The highest salary offered too, reached the Rupees 22 lacs mark this season.  

The financial and financial services domain was represented by the likes of Barclays, Lehman Brothers, Standard Chartered, JM Financial, Centrum, among many others who made unique offers for Investment Banking, Treasury Sales, Trading, Product Structuring, Wholesale Banking, Relationship Management and M & A Advisory.  Says XLRI, "The diversity of profiles on offer for finance provided enough scope for the finance enthusiasts to bag their preferred jobs, either in intense number crunching or milder client interaction roles. The stupendous growth in finance offers, stands testimony to the strong goodwill enjoyed by the institute in the financial domain." 

Consulting firms yet again were present in full strength, offering students the roles of Senior Level Consultants. Ernst & Young, Hewitt, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Mercer, KPMG, TSMG, Capgemini  were the leaders in the pack recruiting students for consulting in various spheres- Banking & Financial Services, Human Consulting, Media & Entertainment, Retail to name a few. The growth in consulting offers made to students at XLRI over the years, further highlights XLRI's forte as a one-stop destination for Consulting majors, says XLRI.  

What was most interesting this year was the growth in the number of General Management offers made by Indian Conglomerates and business houses. The Aditya Birla Group, The Hinduja Group, Essar, L&T, RPG made offers for top management roles to XLRI students. The Al Ghanim Group made international offers to multiple students. The growth in these offers signifies the coming of age and strength of domestic Indian and international houses to avail the best management talent available. 

The technology industry once again established XLRI as their preferred destination with multinationals such as IBM, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Infosys, HCL, WIPRO offering roles ranging from Business Development to Global Sales to Project Management. Companies such as Infosys offered fast track programs to students which would provide packages of USD 100,000 a year into the job! 

Professor Uday Damodaran, the chairperson of the Placement Committee said "The large number of high quality offers in niche areas reinforces the fact that XLRI is the preferred campus for recruitment by corporates when they look for extra ordinary talent." With the final placements slated to begin in a matter of days and companies pouring in for pre placement talks with students, expectations are high for a robust end to the placement season for the batch of 2008.
