XAT 2017: 'Last date to apply will not extend from Dec 11' - confirms XLRI; know the eligibility, XAT exam pattern, fee and more

Last date to register and apply for XAT 2017 exam going to be held on January 8, 2017 in paper pen mode and offering admission opportunity to XLRI Jamshedpur will end on December 11, 2016 with late fee. The last date to apply without late fee was over on November 30.

XLRI who convenes XAT has no proposal to extend the last date any further. According to the Admission Chair at XLRI “The last date is December 11, 2016.  We will not extend the date.”
The registration and application fee for XAT 2017 was Rs. 1600/- till November 30 and now it stands increased to Rs.2000/- with late fee of Rs.400/-. XAT 2017 exam will be held on January 8, 2017 in a single session in paper pen mode from 10AM to 1.30PM across the 47 cities in India and 2 cities abroad.

For the first time XLRI, the XAT 2017 convening institute has offered the facility of late registration till December 11, 2016 by making payment of late fee of additional Rs.400/-.

Add Rs. 500/- per programme to apply to XLRI programmes
Candidates interested in XLRI programme(s) need to pay an additional fee of Rs.500/- for each programme along with XAT 2017 registration fee of Rs.2000/-. However, candidates only interested in XAT but not in XLRI need to pay a fee of Rs. 2000/-.   

This application fee was Rs.1600/- for XAT and Rs300/- per programme for XLRI till November 30, 2016.

Eligibility: No minimum marks in Graduation
XAT 2017 registration, opened on August 17 has not fixed any minimum percentage of marks at bachelor’s degree to apply for the entrance exam or to XLRI Jamshedpur. There is no threshold limit of 50% marks in graduation to become eligible to register and apply for XAT 2017. Accordingly all the candidates with recognized bachelor’s degree or in the final year of bachelor degree are eligible to register for XAT 2017.
 
Eligibility criteria to register and apply for XAT 2017 clarify that aspirants must have recognized bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years duration or equivalent in any discipline. Those completing their final graduation exam by June 10, 2017 may also apply. XAT 2017 is the mandatory exam for admission to member and associate B-schools for Indian candidates, the NRI and foreign candidates may apply through their valid GMAT scores.

Candidates in Dubai and Kathmandu have the option of appearing in XAT 2017 or applying through GMAT scores.

XAT 2017: Exam pattern
The format of XAT 2017 would remain pen-paper based. This is to ensure that candidates of all backgrounds are at par, so that those who have pre-familiarity of operating computers, specially coming from privileged background or having worked in IT sector, do not get any advantage over others who do not have access to computers. The paper-pen mode also ensures that all candidates are tested on exactly the same set of questions, and not on different sets.

3 ½ hours exam in a single session
XAT 2017 is proposed to be of 3½ hours test.  The test is proposed to be conducted in 47 cities on January 8, 2017 across India in a single session beginning from 10.00 AM to 1.30 PM with no break in between.

XAT 2017: Exam components
XAT 2017 will be divided between Objective MCQs and subjective Essay Writing tests. The Multiple choice questions (MCQs) part will be over in 170 minutes and next 35 minutes will be allotted for essay writing part and 5 minutes allotted for turnaround period. 

XAT 2017 test takers will have to complete the first 3 sections of the first part of the MCQ exam namely Verbal and Logical Ability; Decision Making; Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation in 170 minutes while questions in General Knowledge section will have to be attempted in 10 minutes only. 25 minutes will separately be allotted for essay writing test.
